It's lame. But if it's on a voluntary basis... They have the option to forgo the assignment.
In this situation those cops that decide not to work over time aren't pigs, in my book.
I would equate it to a cop electing to not working a trump rally for over time because of their political view points.

They should have used the term Optional because they will still get paid and have the same rights as they do as a policeman on duty, but ultimately it is there decision whether they want to work that event. Most usually do because that represents extra income which is needed due to the low wages of a police officer. I side with the police on supporting any event or whether they want to defer that option.
Question: Why does the title state they will "boycott" if indeed the services are "voluntary" as stated within the article. Terrible journalism as usual.

I would imagine there isn't to many departments in the country that don't have multiple lawsuits filed against them regularly.
Does not really have anything to do with police officers declining to work a event voluntarily on their time off.

But I think if you are required to work the beat as part of your assigned duties, and you decide that you are gonna boycott it because one person or even a minority of people within a venue is exercising thier constitutional rights, you were not a very good cop to begin with.
It's been established several times already that this is a voluntary thing for them, so there is no need for you to make an assumption on anything. I'm not sure why you keep trying to make this into something it's not, unless you have some strange kink with calling the police pigs.

I call them like I see them. In this case, I think there's wiggle room. And to me they have every right to choose not to volunteer. That does not make them pigs. But to me it shows how thin skinned these cops are.

Are the five officers named in the lawsuit part of the group that is protesting CK? If they aren't, then they are not hypocrites. Do you think you should be held responsible for what someone you work with does?
