Couldn’t risk stunting Trevor another year or two, though I think he would have still progressed somewhat regardless.
I also didn’t care for what seemed like the very vocal clown movement was the same folks getting very vocal in their support of Byron. There’s an extra bit of satisfaction that comes from how this season played out in the face of the very vocal folks attempting to drive and thinking they had the wheel.
So did Sirianni stunt the growth of Hurts? Or McVay stunt the growth of Goff? Or Taylor stunt the growth of Burrow?
Sometimes the young coordinator works out really well. Obviously, sometimes it doesn’t.
I’m extremely glad the Jags have Pederson. He was definitely the right man for the job. Before he was hired, I thought his ship at sailed on the Jags and they were left to choose off the scrap heap with that dude from the Raiders. That’s why I was pushing for Leftwich. Pederson wasn’t even on my radar since they went a month after his interview before hiring him. That’s not normal.
Even when Pederson came back into the picture you wanted Leftwich over Pederson. Just admit Lefwich was your guy.

Leftwich was my guy. I’ve never denied that.
However, I also liked Pederson quite a bit.
Doug was and is the right man for the job.
Leftwich turning down the coaching offer here was like Yawn turning down the contract extension we tried to give him. Was opportunities of a life time but greed and a big head got in the way.
Or saying he wont come here unless he can bring in his own GM should i say. He was trying to make the call the owner makes.
It wasn't a good look around the league to all the other owners. Hopefully he succeeds at the ND OC job if he gets it.
Just so glad we ended up with Doug P

Not sure there’s a Jags fan on the planet who thinks otherwise.

It maybe worked out for both sides, because he is not that great. We would have overpaid him.

I wanted an upgrade but I also wasn't one that got upset we retained him. I knew we could do much worse and we have with most or all of the GMs before him. With that said, Byron wasn't a fan that just watched what the worst coach in NFL history destroy the team the team we had that wanted a fresh start. He was a OC that was trying to become a first time head coach and trying to call shots an owner makes, trying to bring in his own boss.

He'd still be our best pass rusher.

He'd also be our biggest liability against the run

Dude. Some folks around here say some dumb stuff so don't give me a hard time.
all in good fun, so you do the same. Consider the source, I don't trust anything he posts not to be sarcasm/hyperbole/frivolity.

I think you have to look beyond "did it work" to say whether or not those hires were good fits at the time. Sirianni picked up where Doug left off, that was a mostly veteran squad with a young QB, same for McVay. You don't drop a greenhorn coach into a locker room that is a shambles, especially following the chaos that Urbz left in his wake. I honestly didn't think someone like Doug would want to come into the disaster area and try to resume his coaching career. So glad he did, even if the way he left Philly gave me pause.
I still think that Byron will make a decent head coach one day. Heck, he may be better there than as an OC. We don't know. But I'll agree that if you dropped him into the mess we had, I dunno that the team turns things around as quickly as Doug did, or at all. It worked out, and I believe that someone will eventually give him a shot.
Seems like a good hire ...and originally from Atlanta.
