Penderson is an offensive dude and last year they invested in the defense with the idea that they would focus on offense this year. I get it, but our defense needs some help, big time…

He didn't screw up last year's number one pick by much.  Walker is a really good player.

I agree with that. He did not have the year one impact that we were hoping for. But when we looked back at five years of production from him, we’re gonna be really, really happy.

I had been all in on us selecting a few players, we didn't. Amazingly the same thing happened last year. Well the teal glasses are on hoping for a nice day of picks. We certainly will own day 3...LOL

With the number of pics we have, we ought to!

Agree.
GIned all that draft capital, then did nothing with quality CB & TE available.  Idjits.
Day 2 was Strange.

Not sure we completely Tanked, however.

It’s that about half the players drafted today won’t make the team. Really needed to use those picks to make moves to move up yesterday. The picks are wasted today.

Exactly right. We wasted our 2nd and 3rd picks on terrible overreaches, and we stockpiled a bunch of low level picks. If our goal was to build a practice squad and special teams unit, we did well. Otherwise, day 2 was an F.

Would be interesting to know what their strategy was as the 2nd round progressed.  Did they just not see much value in the players available in the 2nd?  Or did they but were they expecting a number of players to fall?  And when that didn't happen they realized no one was left on their board that wasn't a reach so they dropped back to acquire more picks to try match the value with the pick as much as possible?  I just have a hard time believing they went into this drafting thinking backup TE and 3rd string RB were areas they really wanted to target early in the draft.

I also find it odd that they really didnt have much interaction with Strange.  I know you probably cant find time to talk to all 127 of the guys they were targeting in this draft.  But I'd like to think you'd prioritize talking to and meeting with the guys you would consider taking in the first fews rounds of the draft.  A 2nd round pick is a very valuable asset and I would think as much due diligence as possible would be done on a guy you'd take there.  Admittedly I have zero context to back this claim.  Maybe that isn't uncommon at all and teams usually only meet with first rounders but I have a hard time believing that.

My hunch is they probably were expecting a few guys to fall, didnt think they'd have to jump up to get them (or tried and couldnt find a good deal), and they got stuck with no one of great value at their pick, traded down to recoup as much value as possible, and took a player from their next tier down.  Or maybe Strange was one of the last players available at whatever highest tier was remaining so they took him even though he filled a position of not an immediate need.  Either way I have a hard time believing this was an ideal scenario for them.

As far as my opinion on the team, still think our biggest weakness going into the draft was both sides of the line of scrimmage.  Not much depth behind the 5 starters on the offensive line and not a consistent pass rush on the dline.  Offensive line I feel better about with Harrison.  But disappointed we haven't done anything along the defensive line.  We weren't great last year and we've only lost talent there.  Have done nothing to upgrade.  Anyone we get today I doubt we can expect a lot from next year unless we dumb luck our way into a steal.

If a team has high interest in a player, they often don't bring them in for a visit because they don't want to tip their hand.  The Jaguars apparently really liked Strange.  If you telegraph it, another team that also likes the player might trade ahead of you to get him.

I also heard that one of the current Jaguars coaches used to coach Strange at Penn State. As such, they had a lot of inside knowledge on the player which made them feel comfortable taking him without a visit.
Just win, baby

-As a team and as a player trying to stay or get on the field. I want to see how Etienne and Engram react to position competition. I sense Engram to be a guy that "takes it personally".
I give it a D at this point. I feel like we've got a lot of other needs, and there were better (or at least equal) players available at those needs than what we got. But who knows? It takes 3 years before you can really judge a draft. Baalke might have seen something we don't. I hope so.
