okay then.
You think drafting backups at positions where we have potential superstar level talent like RB/TE/LB is addressing needs?
Anton Harrision could be viewed as a needs based pick based on 2 things
Jaguars FO dosen't see Cam Robinson remaining a Jaguar
Jaguars FO dosen't believe in Walker Little as a long term solution
If they plan on Cam staying once he's served his suspension, and they expect Little to remain a starter aswell then i'd view it as a bandaid selection for the 6-10 games Cam is likely to miss this year, which I wouldn't consider it a needs based selection.
With that being said, I do like the pick because I'm hopeful that Cam Robinson will be traded off along with his dumb contract allowing us to have more cap space while also getting younger at tackle.
what did you foresee the team doing during Cam's suspension? Ask the chefs to borrow Taylor back for a few weeks?
there's no "could be" about it. That pick addressed a very glaring, albeit short-term, need. And yes, I think the team is setting things up so that they can move on from Cam when it becomes affordable to do so - we have no idea if durability will continue to be a concern as the year(s) drags on, Little's play last season gave evidence that his is capable of playing on the left, and if Cam starts looking for an extension, we're not nearly as desperate this go round as the last time.
Etienne has proven that his style of play gets him banged up, so having a second option is absolutely necessary. I wasn't banking on Hasty as the long-term solution there, were you?
Let me know when Engram signs a long-term deal, at that point you can say TE wasn't a need, too.
So yeah, need need need.

Yep
All three were needs.
RB was a little iffy given the FA signing, and I'd have ranked other needs ahead of it, but it makes enough sense.
Gonna look like a sketchy decision if the RB doesn't pan out though.
OT was even a need before the suspension IMO as Cam really didn't play up to his contract last year.

Okay so even if we agree Anton was a need, I still don't see how we would consider Strange or Tank "Needs". I think "Needs based drafting" means you're taking a guy to fill a hole on the roster, particularly a starting position. If you include backups into that category, than BPA vs Needs drafting is no longer an argument, because you basically can just consider every single position a need, regardless if we have a bonafide starter there already or not.

I can see why some would call a more legit #2 RB a real need. We struggled to run in short yardage situations last year at key moments and ETN seems to have some durability concerns.
I just don't see it as a "spend a third round pick" type of need, personally.
I can see why some folks (including Doug Pederson) consider a versatile TE a need. Evan Engram is a bit too one dimensional - and putting a blocking TE out there who can't be a threat in the pass game is tipping your hand to defenses every time you line him up. (i.e. Farrell and Manhertz types) A TE who can block and catch enhances your ability to out scheme your opponent.
The discussion many are having is simply about prioritizing these needs differently, and finding a way to draft those other needs ahead of TE or RB.

I watched some Auburn games the past 2 seasons since my college team, Penn State, was scheduled to play them two consecutive years. The first time I saw Tank he was unstoppable and I recall hoping the Jaguars would draft him. I still believe that he will be a good NFL player, however he would not have been my pick in round 3. There were nickels available who could have become immediate starters and a big upgrade of Herndon. Jakorian Bennett and Clark Phillips are two such players and while there is no guarantee they will succeed I believe the Jaguars will regret not taking them. The running back room was solid after re-signing Hasty and adding DeErnest Johnson via free agency. They also could have added another back later in the draft who excels in short yardage situations. In actuality, the last pick- Derek Parish- may prove to be an asset in that area.

Yeah in R3 I was hoping Phillips or Moss would be the pick, I will be keenly interested in how they pan out.
