This makes no sense.

What doesn't make sense? Pass Rush has been a worry since last season and nothing has really changed. Didn't really address it during FA/Draft and the worries continued into mini camps. Then into training camp. Now into the first pre season game.

Sorry but I'm not putting all my eggs into the basket of Chaisson, Jordan Smith and rookie Yasir Abdullah. I think Allen and Walker will be just fine (pray Allen doesn't walk in FA because then we'll really be [BLEEP]), but the depth behind them is not there. Hopefully Smoot can get back on the field sooner, rather than later.

Point is, people have been screaming about signing a Vet Pass Rusher for weeks and we got a small look why on Saturday.

I think he was agreeing with you by saying yeah and it doesn’t make any sense why they waited so long to bring a veteran pass rusher in.
the only reason clowny migght fit in jags is cause hes a clown like some of our fans are clowns from the clown out. no offensse inteded to clownly.    Wink Wink. seriously i think he would really be a distrution to the team.
If he has something in the tank and willing to sign a one year Deal it's a no brainer.
We have some very difficult cuts coming up. I don't want to add a one-year rental on a guy who would get us maybe 4 sacks. I'd rather save a spot for a young guy we can develop for the future. We have to make choices. For example, would anyone favor signing Clowney if it meant we have to cut Rourke? Just an example.
I wouldn't hate it. Not the big signing it would have felt a few years ago, but absolutely an upgrade over Chaisson.

We were just playing the long game back in 2013 going to the 14 draft. We knew we'd get him now when we finally have a good team lol
He would be replacing Key. He's an upgrade from Key as well

Yea, for like the 4 total games he plays before he gets injured.

guarantee if he gets signed everyone will be pointing to the bowl game against Michigan.

Maybe we sign him and trade him to the tacks for Key? (That was for you and you alone, Snowy)
The team may have over spent last year in free agency severely hampering any ability to sign even a single impact player this year.

The loss of Taylor making an OT a top priority in this years draft. If you have a handful of holes you can’t fill them all with first and second round draft picks in a single year. Some mid and late rounders have to pan out.

Not to mention Trevor’s mega deal is upcoming and Allen will be getting a big deal next year in free agency.

Clowney and Ingram appear to be the only veteran free agent pass rushers still available after several other vets have recently signed deals (Ngakoue, Houston and Quinn being the last 3). I would prefer Ingram on a one year deal over Clowney.

never change, buddy. never. change.
Sign him. He can help.
For those of you who want to sign Clowney, put yourself in the shoes of the Jaguars. Name your 53 man roster. Then take one guy off of it to create a space for Clowney.

Signing Clowney is going to cost you one of those good young players that you saw against the Cowboys. And they'll be gone for good because some other team will pick them up. Personally, I don't want to lose one of those good young players in order to hire a one year rental who might get us three or four sacks.
May be the oldest 30-year old in the history of the NFL. Seems like he was drafted decades ago.

I think the question becomes Chiasson or Clowney. Do you stick one more year with the kid and hope that the lightbulb goes off (or at least, he is able to play more than you figure Clowney might, considering age and injury history), or do you jump to a rental to salvage some depth at OLB.

If it's me, I'm not buying a bandaid for now. I'd rather give those reps to the younger guys who are showing promise. They may get stonewalled early, but that's how experience is gained. Those dividends pay out in a year or two when we gotta tighten the purse strings a bit.

Easy. Cut Chaisson.

Not so easy.  Put together a 53 man squad, show it to us, and then cut one person.  Chaisson may not even make the initial 53 you put together.

This team is loaded with promising young players that go beyond 53.  I guarantee we are gonna have to cut some of them and it's gonna be painful.  I don't want to sign Clowney and cut somebody I'd rather keep.

They were discussing this today on 1010 and pretty much reached the same conclusion. He’s an old 30 with a history of injuries and past his prime. Pass.
Let's be honest with each other. You want to stay in the show and we want to milk the last drop of football out of you. We aren't going to pay you for the player you were. We are going to pay you for the player you are now.
