They seem to really like Herndon so my guess he makes it. Junior has made some eye opening plays but you just never know, plus Baalke could be scanning the waiver wire post-cutdown.

No [BLEEP] sherlock
But they all put up bad tape in the preseason
And Trevor threw an INT in the preseason. It's pretty clear that they found the guys they want for that role in camp and I think they'll have a tough time letting go of any of the rookie draft picks.

I think it would be tough for Baalke to admit he failed to find a nickel when he spent free agent money and draft picks on defensive backs the past two years. Sure, if an unexpected cut is there he might bring him in, but I think he believes the problem is much less severe than some on here think and he's already solved it.

You got an unhealthy hate boner for Herndon dude.
In fairness, I dont hate him as a person, just his play last season irritated me
I'd take Elijah Cooks over Washington. Stash Washington on PS, bring him to the active if Agnew goes down and to replace his spot next season. Cooks' size is one thing we're lacking at WR and the dude just makes plays out there. Same with Tim Jones. Give me Cooks over Jones at this stage though. I still would much rather keep Rourke of Beathard but I'm like 91% sure we'll roll with CJ and hope Rourke hits PS. If they're insistent on keeping CJ I'd rather go 3 QBs than gamble on Rourke clearing waivers though.

This is the single strangest beef I can remember on this board. It's like this guy ran over your cat or something.

If you want a partial explanation, it is partly because he is not able to differentiate the bad play from Herndon while he was playing outside CB from the games when he played nickel.
He sucked in coverage at nickel also - but percentage wise played better there.
All of those references you've seen CJB make about Herndon "burned down the sideline" were mostly while Herndon played outside for a few games after Shaq Griffin was injured/demoted - but before the staff got wise and moved Williams outside and kicked Herndon inside.
It is unfavorably coloring his opinion.
If Herndon is our best option at nickel outside of the big nickel packages and any other clever zone stuff Caldwell implements, then it just is what it is. We'll get by the best we can.
I think we'll simply be seeing a weekly shift in back seven packages according to the personnel and scheme we face in order to mitigate the lack of talent at slot defender. Not ideal - but we've long had much worse problems.

He was bad everywhere he lined up last season, there was no failure to differintiate anything, the only benefit to him going to nickel was that D Williams played much better on the outside than he did in the slot.

I'm not going to bother to list your posts again, but you kept harping on the sideline passes and 90% of those were from him playing outside. If you say it's not affecting your opinion on him, that's fine, but it sure does seem that way.
No big deal.
One day we'll have a good slot defender and we'll all be happy not to haggle about it anymore.
I look forward to that day.

Well just for a small example, he got toasted by a slot WR who ran a wheel route and about 40 yards late last season, he was covering the sideline by the end of the play but he wasn't the outside corner on said play
But I agree, I cannot wait for that day to come.
Herndon is slow, that's his biggest problem. He was the highest rated defender against Miami lthough he didn't play much

Help is not on the way with DBs, but I’m still holding out hope for a DE.
