I believe jaguars are one of ( is not the only team ) that has yet to tie a game

If you have the most wins all-time of ANY team(836) like the Green Bay Packers you would have some ties in your history. Off the top of my head, I believe the Packers have 38 ties in their history to go along with the 836 wins.
it is true jags have never had a tie.

theres 2 reasons, 1. they are either to bad of a team ,and lose all the time.  2. they are a really good strong team that finds a way to win.

Number 1 is more likely..since the Jags have a losing record overall in their history, which only started in 1995. The Panthers I believe have only 1 tie in their history. Also a losing record.
Ties used to be common because before 1974 there was no overtime in regular season games.

I think they should just go back to that.  Sportswriters hate ties but fans don't mind.

Ties are dumb. Every game should be played out until there's a winner imo.
aother jags history. the jags have never won divison back to back since being moved to afc southh.  they were in afc central last time they won back to back divsion tittles.  unforttantly that streak still stands today.

Just curious
Does your fan base / team stink that much that u  have to go to a completely different team to gloat your teams history.

Honestly it's something a 12 year old does

The problem with that is if a game goes beyond 70 minutes, the players would be so beat up they might not even be competitive the next week.

I think the NFL likes overtime because it's dramatic, but beyond 10 minutes of overtime, it gets pretty rough on the players.

The argument of every game should be played out to find a winner flies in the face of the league's stated goal of player safety (yes, I doubt they care as much as they say).  If you're going to give each team a guaranteed possession in overtime, that also extends the game and flies in the face of player safety.  Fairness comes into question in the previous sudden death over time rules as the coin flip had a more significant impact on the final result.

I think the best thing for player safety in a 17 game season (likely eventually going to 18) is to do away with overtime during the regular season.  Coaches would more often (if not almost always)  go for 2 in scenarios where they just led their team to an otherwise game tying score.   Some already do this.  We did it against the Ravens 2 seasons ago.  An overtime period would not have added much to the excitement of that game.  It was damn exciting and probably one of the best games I've ever been to and I've been to a lot.  Had we not gotten the 2, I would not now be yearning to have gone to overtime.  Also, scenarios where a team is down 3 late and in FG range, the threat of no overtime might compel them to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking to tie.

Ties are not a bad thing.  The goal of the regular season is to determine playoff teams and seed them properly.  Ties factor in to that.  I don't think there would be an epidemic of ties by removing overtime altogether in the regular season.  I think there would be a lot of "go for the win" moves made late in games especially later in the season when playoff seeding becomes clearer.  It would be just as exciting, maybe moreso.  Obviously a winner must be determined in the playoffs so the current overtime rules for playoff games is adequate though I would keep giving possessions until the other team was not able to match or best the previous score.

back in the olden days the league alllowed regular season games to end in a tie without OT, they were MUCH more common place then than they are now.

I kinda miss it.

3) Jack Del Rio isn't wearing a suit on the sideline.
"BRING BACK THE TIES" has more than one meaning when talking about shieldball

oh buddy, the casual fans' minds would asplode if they had to figure out half-games in the standings...or to grok how a 1-0-2 team is tied for first with the 2-1 team

Didn't they do old boxing matches this way? There would be like 47 round fights, keep going till one quits (or worse?)
Think of a team having to play a full game and then a 10 minute overtime, and then having to go play a Thursday night game. That would be brutal.

Think of a guy making 10-20x what I will earn in my career over a span of 9 months. That must be brutal.

These guys know exactly what they sign up for when they ink their contracts.

(For the record, I am #TeamTies)
That’s correct. The Jaguars have never tied. I made that a Fun Fact in the Gameday Thread last season.

These are 1st round pick, James Stewart’s first 3 seasons rushing yards. By week 14 in 1996, Natrone Means became the featured back. In 1997, Means was still the featured back.

1998, Stewart had back to back 100 yard games and then went down with an injury in the 3rd game, which led to  Fred Taylor securing the position and never looking back. The Jaguars drafted 3 running backs in 1998, in Taylor, Banks, and Howard.

As a 1st round draft pick, Stewart became a bust after 2 seasons. He played 5 seasons in Jacksonville, and never rushed for more than 1,000 yards in a season. Over that span, the Jaguars acquired Natrone Means, Fred Taylor, Tavian Banks, and Chris Howard.

Banks had the career ending injury, and Taylor was often injured during the 1998 and 1999 seasons, and Chris Howard couldn’t hang on to the football, which allowed Stewart to hang around.

If Travis Etienne’s first 3 seasons ended with 500,700,500, he would be considered a bust also.

So his career ended after three seasons.

As I said previously, really dopey definition of a bust.

As I said previously, Stewart was a bust.

That's OK.  It's obvious that you don't know what a bust is.
I would get rid of regular season overtime and I would make postseason overtime much simpler.

New postseason overtime rule: if the score is tied when the game clock reads 4th quarter 0:00, ignore the game clock and keep playing until the next score. Keep playing under the 2 minute rules. The end. Easy. If the last timed play is a 3 yard gain on 2nd and 7, the next play is 3rd and 4. Simple. No coin flips.
I don't care if they get hurt.. obviously i don't want them paralyzed or dead.. but it's a next man up league.

They're making millions to play 17 games a year.

I dig the first part. No OT in the regular season.

For the second, I think there is merit to having timing, if only for breaks at the end of the period and opportunity to change fields/direction. Doesn't mean as much in a dome, but open air stadia and grass fields switching end zones can be a huge difference maker.  Also, if you just continue play, that takes away the impetus to attempt a long field goal to end regulation. 3 seconds left, you're at the 35, 3rd and 2. Make them try the FG! It's a 52 yarder, but to me it's more exciting for a kicker to score the walk-off than to go to break, come back, and run a draw play to get a first, run 6-7 more plays, and kick a 27-yard chip shot.

But yeah, sudden death all the way. Each team had 60 minutes to get the dub. Whoever scores after that wins. Full stop.
