DiRoc will be the same pundit calling for Press Taylor's head by week 7 if they get off to an 0 - 6 start though.
Just like this board. The media is filled with jobbers, heels and babyface's to keep the average Joe and Jane entertained and coming back for more.

The reward is great but the risk is too high for that moment.
On first down in your endzone, the play call should be some thing quick to make some room. Get 4-6 yards.
Then run that play on 2nd down. Get sacked at the goal line and you still have 3rd down.
I'm not as worried about the call as I am worried about 2 guys not being able to block 1 guy for even half a second.
For sure, but it's counterintuitive when you expect coaches to put the team in a place to succeed.
Something as simple and plausible as a holding call would have given up the safety as well, since so much of the play was developing within the confines of the EZ. It was overwhelming risk with potential for reward. Considering how tenuous we often see this offense play, it was uncharacteristic, and not a surprise that we planted squarely on our face.

That's the offseason cure. You overdo that today and a guy blows a pec and ends up on IR or holding every down trying to compensate for their limited ability.
We are who we are, scheme is the only variable at our disposal at this stage. The bed is made, we must now prepare to sleep in it.
It was glorious listening to Mike Dempsey talk on the radio just now on 1010XL about the Jags woes and their play in general. To sum, he said that they need to scheme BTJ open more for at least 12 targets per game. Was a beautiful callout and my heartbeat flutters for the common sense our local guys have here.

Some will say but he's a rookie. It doesn't matter if he's a rookie or not when he has looked like your best player. All reports was he was unstoppable in joint practices with the Bucs and looked like our best WR in camp. The Rams had no problem feeding Nakua last year right out of the gate yet he was a 5th round rookie. Vikings did it with JJ, Bengals did it with Chase etc.
BTJ is clearly our best WR already and we should have continued to feed him in the 2nd half of the Miami game, more times last week, and we need to use him like he's our number 1 WR now.
Buffalos corners are decent but they aren't as good as Miamis or Clevelands. Hopefully BTJ can have his breakout game Monday night and show the world what he can do.

You're missing the point. 4 targets per game is not enough. He should be getting 8, 12 targets per game.
Maybe you get bigger plays earlier in the game that leads to tuddies or field goals so we're not in that position to begin with backed up in our endzone in obvious passing situations.

Said it twice already. When you have a Maserati Chiron at the WR position? I am not taking it out for a stroll around the block here and there.
I am red lining that [BLEEP] and begging for speeding tickets or until somebody stops me. It's just aggravating.

This was already beaten to death in another thread, but unless you cull through every play in the all22 and interview an offensive coach - you have zero clue how many intended targets there were for BTJ. They may have dialed up 8 for all you know. And the string of three and outs certainly didn't help. Never got the chance there.
The browns also played really good defense and we had a lot of plays that never got off the starting block offensively.
Opportunities were pissed away en masse by our own doing or negated by a good defense that harassed our QB. Who knows how many looks he gets if those things were mitigated? That will not be the case every week.
The good news is - I think this staff 100% sees what we are seeing in terms of this kids readiness and they will jump on it.
Shipley and Demetrius mentioned that they looked unstoppable in joint practices because they couldn’t sack the QB. More than half those big plays would have been sacks.
And here we are, week 2, and the deep shots are there but the OL trash cans can’t do their job.

Why wasn't the other WRs unstoppable then? It has proved true even rolling over to the regular season. He burned Ramsey a few times week 1 in the first half and we should have continued to target him in the 2nd half. And Shipley and Harvey didn't say he looked unstoppable just because we couldn't sack the QB. We had oline issues but that didn't take away from the fact he was owning their DBs just like he has been so far in the regular season. "They" didn't look unstable, just BTJ did. Even the Bucs staff and players were praising him. That first half of week 1 didn't come out of nowhere, it's what he was showing in practice

Exactly.
Last season Doug and Press got beat up in pressers with pundits asking why we weren't throwing downfield and running more play action. (fair questions as average depth of target was minuscule - but the protection issues should have been an obvious answer)
Now those exact same guys are begging for more quick release passing in their twitter feeds.
It's kind-of funny, kind-of sad. Anyway - I hope they figure out how to make more of the deep shots work despite the protection issues. Or just improve the protection somehow.
And - yes - they don't need to happen from our own end zone, LOL. But I still like the play.

I love BTJ and he’s going to be a very good WR for a long time. He’s got “it”.
But that doesn’t mean the joint practices were slightly off base. The long deep shot in joint practice where he splits the safety and corner? It would have been a sack and ever beat writer mentions it.
It’s not a knock on BTJ or saying he’s not good (he’s very good) but it’s pointing out just how bad the OL has consistently been and how Doug/Baalke/Rauscher suck.

Forgot about that. Great point!
Because even with a better, under-center formation, even with a plan to roll the QB right, there's no accounting for a possible holding call.
Basically you shouldn't call that play in that spot if you can't afford to give up a safety there. It should be the middle of the game, or you should be up by at least 5 points if not 9 before you consider that call in that spot.

It doesn't have to all all deep shots 40 yards down field. None looked as good as BTJ did this camp. BTJ did the same thing in the first half week 1 vs the highest paid corner as he did in camp. Feed the hot hot not go away from it.

They aren't going away from it. Why do you assume they are going away from it?
He had the same number of actual targets in week 2 as week 1 and he'd likely have had 3 or 4 more if the browns didn't spoil so many passing attempts with pressure and we didn't ruin a handful more of them with unforced errors.
