In the more likely scenario, China will continue to mow down entrepreneurs who get too big and they will be unable to do anything but make stuff others invented cheaper and faster. That is no way to improve their citizens' quality of life and does not help on the "soft power" front either.
Tariffs are an appropriate punishment for China's use of slave labor, overuse of coal, lack of worker protections, lack of environmental protections, IP theft, and many other wrongs. But they should be targeted to the things we can make lots of elsewhere. Target their steel and electronics and motors and textiles. Don't target the solar panels and batteries. The world needs as many solar panels and batteries as possible right now.
Communism, by its very nature, cannot become less repressive. There's a reason they build walls, physical and technological, around their fiefdoms. When the people discover and enjoy freedom, communism dies. The CCP has played it out to about as far as they can now while still maintaining control.
Communism and Socialism have never been successful in real life. Only in extremely controlled environments like Universities. I do not blame many Democrats for some of their ideas. People Like Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Shumer, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris and many more have never operated in the public sector or had to make a living working. They just do not have the life experience. They depend on highly educated people who also have never had to work for a living. I cannot count the number of the latter type that once in the real world making a living came to the conclusion many of the ideas they had or were taught in school just are not applicable to the real world. Those that didn't were quickly relegated to lower level positions as they had zero common sense.

Communism in the Soviet Union eventually broke down bloodlessly. But it was sudden. The CCP has greatly extended or loosened the leash they have on the economy since Mao. So it doesn't always tighten. They could loosen it from here, in theory, but more likely it will tighten in the next decade.

I agree, but they can't unring that bell. It could very well turn into violent revolution.

#BREAKING: President of Mexico has just CALLED OFF any potential tariff war with the United States after her call with President Trump - ABC
“There will be no potential tariff war,” President Claudia Sheinbaum said today.
Trump announced last night that she agreed to "immediately" effectively shut down the border.
This is a change in tune - before the call with Trump, Sheinbaum was threatening retaliation against the U.S. by tariffing our products.
The Art of the Deal in action.

It’s not a Thanksgiving holiday without a family disagreement.
OH, There is going to be quite lively back and forth between now and a resolution. We should expect it and not over react. Personally I cannot see It by no measure a settled outcome yet. Remember Trudeau and Sheinbaum are also politicians with critics in their own countries. They cannot appear to just kneel before Trump.
Ps. CNBC reported spike in illegals in October. They surmised it was the cartels pushing as many prior to Trump taking office. For more Ice stats link to the GOV below. Maybe it sheds light on the issue being addressed.

Dude, no offense, but I'm not reading jack that you put up.. You believed nothing but fake news for the last 4 years.
You need to read what she actually said, word for word, and not some interpretation of what she said by anyone else. This interpretation that Trump's threat of a tariff caused Mexico to do something is bogus. She's saying she doesn't think Trump will put the tariffs on, for two reasons: one, he's demanding the Mexicans do something they are already doing, so Mexico has already satisfied that demand, and two, he will come to his senses as people advise him of the hundreds of thousands of American jobs and big American companies (like GM) he is putting at risk with a trade war.
So all this triumphalism about Trump bullying the Mexicans is a fantasy.
Look, I'm happy to let Trump and his supporters live in a fantasy world, if it means we won't have tariffs and a trade war with Mexico.

Sorry dude, not reading it.. You have complained and [BLEEP] for the last 4 years about people posting fake news, when it turned out, it was actually you believing the fake news and making ill informed posts regarding that fake news..
You ended up turning into what you hated most..
That's just my opinion, I'm sure you're a good guy, but no thank you.

I'm sure you're a good guy, too, but what you are doing is clapping your hands over your ears and closing your eyes. You'd rather keep your fantasies than deal with reality. If you read a transcript of what she said, what is fake about that?

Riddle me this, if Mexico is stopping all of these illegals from reaching the southern border where are all of these encounters coming from?

Not sure what you mean by "...all of these illegals..." but I don't think I ever said Mexico has managed to stop all illegal immigration to the US, if that's what you're asking.

So just to be clear, we agree Mexico can do more to stop the flow of illegals crossing through their borders to get to ours.
By extension, can we also agree the threat of tariffs could spark greater policing by the Mexican government to further reduce illegals which they are not doing now? Regardless of what the Mexican President is claiming?
I get the feeling that if anyone but Trump was leading this campaign 90% of left leaning individuals would be on board.

I would agree that the threat of tariffs could spark the Mexicans to do more about illegal immigration to the US and the flow of drugs. But I agree somewhat with the Mexican President that demand from the US is at least partially responsible for the flow of drugs and people across the border. And as long as we keep buying the drugs, and employing the people, it will be almost impossible for the Mexican government to stop the flow of people and drugs into the US from Mexico.
I think we should be aware of what the Mexican government is already doing and the fact that they have already stopped the caravans. This claim that Trump's threats induced the Mexicans to stop the caravans is false, because the Mexicans have already almost completely stopped the caravans. Of course that doesn't mean they've stopped all the illegals from crossing the border.
I'm already on record opposing the kind of tariffs Trump is threatening, so I wouldn't have made such a threat, because I wouldn't be willing to carry it out.
And I don't agree that if anyone but Trump was leading this campaign 90% of left leaning individuals would be on board. I don't think left leaning individuals care much about the invasion across the border.
We can argue semantics all day, but the issue is 10 million people crossed the border over the last 4 years. The numbers dropped in the run up to the election for a reason. Now after the election there is a surge to get in as many as can before Trump takes office. Whether they walk in a "caravan" are transported in groups that attract less attention or fly in on from other countries it really doesn't matter. The time for pretending is over.
