Weird, the Justice Department didn't find anything criminal that they could bring to a court but we're supposed to just accept an Ethics Committee report chock full of unprovable testimony hidden behind "Woman X" aliases about all these crimes he committed?

DoJ determined that a jury might find reasonable doubt in some aspect.

I'm not sure how the law is written.  Is "But I thought she was 18" a valid defense?

Do you want to have to ask that question about your Attorney General?

Yeah,  your MAGA is extremely weak. Your not supposed to start a post which only brings more attention to your fellow soldier. Your supposed to deflect on somebody else’s thread. I hope a more seasoned MAGA is able to take flsprtsgod under their wing and show him how to demonize the leftist filth properly. This thread was a complete faceplant.

Mr. Trump, what did you know about the minors Gaetz was having sex with, and when did you know it?

Did you know about the minors Gaetz was having sex with when you nominated him for Attorney General Mr. Trump?

Will you be recommending a pardon for Gaetz, Mr. Trump?

Doesn't this call into question your motives, and ethics on your nominees Mr. Trump?

^ Perhaps you should re-read the comments here. If Huntrr isn't a subject of this thread, why did they include him? Since you appear confused about the subject of the thread, I couldn't assume you weren't also confused about who you wish to be punished or exonerated.

That is not a valid defense in the state of Florida.

Is ignorance to age a defense to sexual abuse in Florida? | Rossen Law Firm

Florida law doesn’t care whether or not you thought the person you were having sexual relations with was 18 years old or older. Florida law and Florida state prosecutors care about the actual age of the victim – regardless of how old you thought they were – when it comes to sexual abuse or sexual assault charges in Florida.

That is a good point.  From what I have read, the Justice Dept dropped the investigation because they didn't think the witnesses would be credible before a jury.  It's easy to see a scenario where the DOJ said, "I think he did it, but if we fail to convict him, it will look like we persecuted him because he is Matt Gaetz.  That's too big a risk at a time when we are being accused of weaponizing the government."

So the Biden-controlled Justice Dept dropped its investigation and the Republican-controlled Ethics Committee kept going.  The Ethics Committee was doing a wider investigation than the DOJ was.  The DOJ was just looking into the sex trafficking, but the Ethics Committee was looking into all that other stuff they laid out in their statement.

"...prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress."

Plus, the Ethics Committee didn't have to worry about whether a jury would believe the charges, just whether they themselves would.  And apparently, they did.
Someone's trying hard to bump his post count.

Matt Gaetz ethics report says his drug use and sex with a minor violated state laws - CBS News

Former Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican who briefly stood to become President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to be attorney general, was found by congressional ethics investigators to have paid numerous women — including a 17-year-old girl — for sex, and to have purchased and used illegal drugs, including from his Capitol Hill office, according to a final draft of a comprehensive investigative report obtained by CBS News.
Those were among the findings of the long-running investigation by the House Ethics Committee into Gaetz, which concluded the former Florida congressman violated multiple state laws related to sexual misconduct while in office.
"The Committee determined there is substantial evidence that Representative Gaetz violated House Rules and other standards of conduct prohibiting prostitution, statutory rape, illicit drug use, impermissible gifts, special favors or privileges, and obstruction of Congress," the 37-page report concludes.

Kudos to him for standing his ground and admitting that *gasp* he was a party animal back in the day. Again, nothing new under the sun in politics. A lot of these guys are like that. As long as it was consensual and within proper law and order it's really not something we should continue to harp on.

He did this stuff while in office.
Also he did not stand his ground, he retired from Congress and withdrew his name from consideration for AG.
