Surround Henne with better talent and he plays worse. Makes perfect sense. Dude is hot garbage.

Quote:You its possible Allen could play better then Henne right or even another free agent... Football is Football. Learning Curve wont be that significant when the offense is simplified.. Besides how long are we too wait until Henne shows he is capable of winning a game?? Our lifetime? Ill pass..

You'll notice we are both working off of "ifs". I'm giving you worst case scenario and you are giving me best case scenario. For what it's worth, I like Allen and think he will develop into a good backup. If football is indeed football, you wouldn't be worried about Henne having to take over if Blake gets injured. On having to wait...you only have to wait the rest of this season, soooo not a lifetime. You'll pass???? Nah, you'll be just fine with whatever the front office decides.
Quote:He has experience in the system the backup will need to gain. Keep in mind that experience will be limited because Bortles is sure to get the lion share of reps throughout the year.

Let's daydream shall we? Jags cut Henne. Bortles goes down week 8. Allen proves to not be ready. Jags sign backup qb. Qb has to learn a truncated playbook. Game plan is altered to reflect the learning curve. No better off than when we started.

And yet no worse than if Henne were on the roster as we'd still lose the same game, only all the while we had that extra roster spot. Also, even if Allen were STILL not ready by then, at least he'd be closer to being ready by getting all the reps Henne would have otherwise wasted.

Quote:Its demoralizing none of our backups can lead a scoring drive.. Its even more demoralizing when your proven veteran qb throws 2 picks against basically a rookie... Thats pathetic... Allen and Wittick werent any better.

It might be time to start looking at free agents... The lack of production from our backup QB's is a major concern heading into the season, lets hope the problems can be rectified..
You needn't be 'demoralized' due to shabby play from our backup QB's. Consider...

*it's pretty clear that this is Chad's last season as a Jag since he would be asking for a rather large paycheck to stay here next year.

*Allen and Wittick are both stone rookies who were playing with rookies and ended up looking like rookies. That shouldn't be all that shocking.

We've got our franchise QB in Bortles. So unless he goes down for the count this season, the backups only need to be good at carrying a clip board. And that's the way it should be.

Are you saying you are having trouble seeing what their plan is? I guess you think they're going to deviate. That's my perspective, I don't expect them to deviate unless something drastic happens.
Quote:It's a concern. I expect Henne to manage capable drives being a veteran now. Especially with No. 2's. Good chance the final preseason game is an open audition for the back up job between him and Allen. If Henne slips and Allen makes something happen it's probably time to move on.
This guys sig is way above the legal size limits....just saying. One for all right?
Keep in mind that while our talent on the starters has increased exponentially the last 3 years, there is a MASSIVE dropoff in talent between the starters and backups. Against the Jets, Marqise Lee was a force since he's realistically the only talented player on the second team. I can't name anyone else on the 2nd team O that would inspire confidence if a frontline starter were to be out for the year.

Henne knows the playbook, if blake goes down, he can call the run plays without a cliffnotes version of the offense at his disposal and get the right look. At worst he can just throw jump balls to Robinson; if Robinson had been the intended receiver on those 2 picks he threw, theres a chance we're looking at a completed pass because of ARobs ability to bail out his QB.

Meetings and the day to day around the facility needs to be considered as well, a less talented veteran has more to offer a meeting room than your average rookie. Henne in a meeting room offers perspective, he may not have the ability to execute anymore... but he at least knows how the game is played at the pro level. if we cut Henne what will Brandon Allen (who i like a lot btw) and Wittek as 1st year players have to offer the QB room in terms of insight: "uhhh not sure, i never really saw a look like that in college"

Off the field, it's been stated many times that Henne and Bortles are tremendous friends off the field, henne's wife and kids are friendly with Blake and helped him adjust to living on his own, they still spend a lot of time with one another... I'd rather not take away my 1st round QB's trusted confidant and close friend he can rely on and trust. Until someone outplays Henne clearly.. we should keep him.

Final note: I think that this is Henne's last year in Duval (at least as a player) Brandon Allen is being groomed for the backup role, but will need a year to learn the playbook, work on fundamentals, and learn how to be a pro; he'll get that this year by shadowing bortles and picking henne's brain. But until Brandon Allen or Wittek (yuck) outplay Henne by a considerable margin (im talking Dak Prescott level of showout) then Henne stays put.

There's no doubt Henne has looked downright awful when he has been in there this preseason.

4/10 for 33 yds and 2 INTs in the last preseason game, I mean come on Henne, what the heck is going on out there?

I think we all know deep down that Henne is here to stay for this season, whether you really want to admit it or not.

I have a question for all of you: in the unlikely event that Henne does get cut by the Jags, is there another team out there that would actually bring him in for a look and if so, which team?

I do believe that if Brandon Allen were to be released he would definitely be brought in by another team as I think he has a lot of upside, especially for a rookie.

They don't need another coach on the field, buddy for Bortles or insight in the qb room. What they need is a backup qb who can play. All of this is overlooking the overwhelming factor that Henne is a hack of a qb milking this team for his fat paychecks. Simply put, he stinks, and he's not likely to win any games should he have to come in. At least there's a chance that maybe Allen might develop quickly enough to win some games should he be needed, and at the very least he can hand off the ball just the same.

Allen wouldn't be signed by another team if released in the final cuts, and will safely make the practice squad. He's just not good enough to merit a slot on any team's 53 man roster.

If Henne were released he might be signed, but not before week 2. He could be the best QB on the tinhorns if he signed there. Maybe Denver and San Fran too.

Henne won four games in 2013. The roster is far far better this year. Maybe he has gone downhill since then, but he's not that old for a QB. He has clearly stunk it up this preseason, but I don't know whether that's any indication of his ability behind the 1st team offense. He'll probably get the start and extended play in preseason game 4, so let's see how he does then.

Don't kid yourself, If Bortles goes down, we'd be lucky to win any games. I think Brandon Allen has potential, but i'd be hard pressed to say he's better than Henne right now, despite how he's looked in the preseason. Even if he develops, he might have to drop a few games before he gets to servicable.

I think having a coach on the field and a buddy for Bortles in the QB room is worth more than you give it credit for, Bortles seems to be playing well and improving... why mess with it?

besides Allen's "potential" which isn't even assured, what backup QB is available to us RIGHT NOW that would be a clearcut improvement over Henne?

I'm really curious what evidence you see that points to this, because I sure don't see it

Whatever chance there is, the chance for Henne to not lose the game is greater. Also, Henne is not making that much. This is starting to be creepier than fixation with grant.
I believe Henne's $4 million salary is fully guaranteed.

Will Henne keep his job solely because of his relationship with Blake??

Henne will keep the job because he has had success in the past and he knows the offense. Allen isn't ready, he'll end up on the practice squad.

Henne is terrible, that is painstakingly obvious, anyone on the other side of that has 0 football credibility, however, there is not currently a better option on our team right now. There may be some better players cut loose from teams within the next few weeks but now you have familiarity with system. DC has just done an amazing job building our squad and I am confident there is a plan in place, I just hope we don't get our hands caught in the cookie jar while the back end of the rebuild is finished.
Paging Nick Foles.

Well, given that he has been a Chief for at least two weeks now, I don't think he will answer.
