The constituents in her district kept voting her in despite a history of impropriety going back to the beginning of her tenure.  Were the opposition candidates that bad over the years (rhetorical, they couldn't have been by comparison to Corinne) or is the district as a whole  that willing to put up with political corruptness?

Sure Shantrel, your mom being a congresswoman had nothing at all to do with a $46k automobile in 1998 being gifted to you...

Look who's involved again...  well if it isn't Shantrel.  It's just the darnedest thing how she keeps innocently popping up in her mom's legal issues.

I found this quote from the second article both sad and troubling with regards to the depths that Corinne will go to and the laughable parallels she attempts to draw:

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

Quote:Brown likened her situation to the recent police shooting deaths of two black men in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and St. Paul, Minnesota, and the deaths of five Dallas police officers during a protest march Thursday night.

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">“Last week was very rough,” Brown wrote. “Two black men were needlessly gunned down by police; five Dallas police officers were slain by a demented man; and on Friday I had to appear in federal court.”

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Calling the indictment “very scary,” Brown said her “spirit remains unbroken.”

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">“My conscience is clear because I’m innocent,” she wrote. “I’m not the first black elected official to be persecuted, and, sad to say, I won’t be the last.”

Stay Klassy Corinne.

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">300 years in jail may not be enough ......

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The indictment centers on an organization called One Door for Education, through which Brown and Simmons solicited more than $800,000 in donations on the premise that the money would be used for college scholarships, school computer drives and other items, investigators said.

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">

<p style="color:rgb(17,17,17);font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">More than $200,000 in One Door funds went to pay for events hosted by Brown in her honor, including a golf tournament in Ponte Vedra Beach, receptions at an annual conference in Washington, D.C., and luxury boxes for a concert and an NFL game in Washington, D.C., investigators said

It seems that voters have often been willing to look the other way regarding the ethics of their representatives as long as they think they are getting something in return. Just look at the current occupant of the White House. His supporters already have a sore neck from looking the other way.

She was often the butt of jokes, but some version of "she delivers" has been used by every politician since they started having elections.

Charles Bennett was considered some sort of political god around these parts for a very long time - because he carried water for the Navy. He delivered. But because of his war record, and the fact that he was white, he never seemed to catch much flack from the good ole boys that love to get all self-righteous about Brown.

Her districts were redrawn a few times and twice she ran unopposed so it wasn't all about the voters, though voters will always choose the person who talks the talk, no matter whether they actually deliver.

Corrine Brown was elected to her office 12 times.  You can toss out the "good old boy" and race baiting from this discussion.  Charlie Bennett may have been something she's not, and that's NOT corrupt.  Corrine Brown's corruption isn't determined by her melanin levels.  Dirtbags come in all shapes, sizes, and yes, colors too.

Well, she's putting that money to good use...buying ice cream.
Quote:LOL.  Unfortunately for me, she was also my "representative": for about the same time frame.  It's about time justice is really served against her.

Susan Rice is next in line.
Susan Rice has to be the single biggest idiot in politics. To think Americans were dumb enough to buy the whole "youtube" thing, then all of the other scandalous stuff she's pulled since. She should be getting fitted for an orange jumpsuit, followed by the crooked clintons, and last, but not least the worst thing to ever happen to this country, the obummers. Both of them. Lock both of those dudes up too.
When I worked for the City, the Duval delegation had an office at the old City Hall. i was exiting the back entrance one day while Rep. Brown was unloading something from the front seat of her Mercedes parked near the door. She was leaning in the front seat through the driver's door when the car suddenly went into reverse, dragging her into Newnan St before it crashed into a building. I rushed out to see her sitting in the middle of the road, dazed, wig twisted sideways on her head. After realizing she was ok, it very hard not to laugh at the sight.

The irony was the Mercedes was at the center of a scandal, where, IIRC, she was accused of using re-election campaign funds to purchase for her daughter.

Is your natural response to use the race card?

When it's all ya got...
Wow.. They were all such a close knit circle of corrupt friends..

And now they're all turning on each other like rabid dogs haha

So fitting.
Maybe she's hoping for a well hung jury?

She's taking the stand. Just can't keep her mouth shut.

Interesting to see what she gets vs what she deserves.

Restitution for one, but good luck with that.

Now it's from ice cream bars to ice cream behind bars.

Funny how " loyal " friends act when they're in the mixer as well. But, nothing new. Tough guy mobsters have done it many times. Omerta my [BLEEP] when it comes to covering their own.
All it takes is one jurist who refuses to cave to hang the jury.

I'm betting it happens. So is she.
Acquittal request denied.

She's testifying today.

Represented some of the poorer areas of the state, all the while stealing from those same people.

It was absolute shameless greed. She grew so comfortable with thoughtless voters and a coddling media that the idea of accountability fled her consideration long ago.

She's testifying today.
Her mile long witness list for the defense has been whittled down to no more than 3 people including Coco Brown.

Channel 4 did a live update about an hour ago, and they were talking about the evidence and how damning it actually is.  The IRS testified today, and their forensic analysis of Coco's bank accounts revealed that she had more than $146k in unreported income that flowed through her personal account.  She also had tens of thousands of dollars in bogus charitable contributions she reported on her personal taxes, including trying to write off her own time.

I always knew this woman was a corrupt piece of garbage, but when you hear the extent to which she defrauded donors, and then look at how long it was going on before she finally got caught, she's looking more and more like someone who is about to finish their days confined to a cell for the rest of her life.  They better take her wigs so that she doesn't try to smother herself.

I don't know if I want to see her prison mugshot (sans wig), or not.

I would have lost it. How much hair is left under that nest on her head?
