I had to watch the replay because they don't show it in my area. I keyed in on Fowler on defense every play, and something wasn't right. He would try the Dwight Freeney spin move everytime, and then the tackle would just push him off, and then he would run into coverage. Very strange, and I'm not sure if that was planned or what, but I didn't care for it. Did anyone else see this?

Yeah, he freelanced in the game. The coaches will put a stop to that. Yannick and Fowler have to learn that the things that worked in college probably won't work in the NFL. Fowler speed rushed, bull rushed, and tried the spin move. I'm not sure he was really setting up those moves. I think he is just winging it. Yannick is finding out the hard way that if all you can do is speed rush, you are in trouble. I think they'll get better and better with every game.
I remember during ARob's rookie year he was dropping passes before he just blew up. Remember the nickname "Allen Dropinson"? Sometimes you have to just let the season take its course, gonna be some time before the potential reveals itself in the games

Actually no I don't remember...
Quote:He was going up against a pro bowl tackle in Ryan Clady.
actually Fowler was lined up against RT most of his 10 snaps he played! Ngakoue had a sack going against Clady though. That being said there's no reason to overreact to 1 pre-season game. Especially when Dante hadn't played in a game in about a year in half. Fowler said in post game interview that he was working on feeling out the opposing offensive tackle in pre-season opener and he plans to make offensive tackles feel him out going forward.

During last year's preseason, he had a bad case of dropsies. That had this board up in arms... and then, he blew up.

Reminds me of the time a poster here tried to convince me for two days that Allen Hurns couldn't catch the ball with his hands and would never be more than a #4 receiver.
The "Assassin"? How could Dante Fowler's Nickname be anything other than "The Inferno"? Bringing the Heat !!
He didn't do much after they schemed so much to get him the pressures and sacks.
Oh wait......
Allen Dropinson? No, nobody remembers that.
This is laughable, complaining about a PRESEASON game... the FIRST preseason game no less. about a guy who missed all of last year with an ACL tear.... ok now that we have perspective back:
I was at the stadium for Fowlers first action, and even though he didn't register a sack, he was still a terror. His explosiveness jumped out at you. "assassin" doesn't fit him at all... "Berserker" is a much better description of his skillset and how he plays, although I do like the "Dante's Inferno" play on words.
On the play where Yannick had the sack, Fowler came off the opposite side (Right Tackle) bent to the QB and forced Fitzpatrick to step up into the pocket (which was being collapsed on by Malik and Odrick) so Fowler tried to disengage and rip inside, but before he could make the play Yannick took advantage of the other 3 moving the QB off his spot to net the sack. Had Yannick been stoned on the play I think it's probably Fowler gets the sack there. just one example of him causing havoc for the other team
Believe me Fowler will be fine, he's playing fast as well as physical, he looked the part and passed the eye test as well. The kid is gonna be a baller so no need to stress (especially in the 1st game of the preseason lol....)
Tony Brackens was an excellent pass rushing DE but he didn't have a game-changing play every week. I think Fowler will be just fine; he's playing a bit wild now but should settle down with a little more playing time.

That's what I'm seeing also.
Doesn't Fowler sound like he's dealing with some congestion issues

TMD is digging DF hard on Twitter, haha.

I watched his mic'd up and his "In the Trenches" feature on the homepage and I heard the coaches saying something like "3rd and long get off and run, look for the screen, and when they try to block you like that stay right here" and other similar coach speak. Not sure why they didn't want him to go after the QB full speed but that should answer your question.

That is quite odd, at least to me, that the coaches would want him to hold back against the opposing QB… I mean, Fowler already has trouble restraining his energy in practice...
I don't know, but it's just the first preseason game - let's see what happens in the upcoming game.
