A QB needy team will always have that temptation to take a QB early if allowed. I still think a QB going top 5 is a realistic possibility. Look at the Goff surprise last year.
If Cleveland is expecting the best available QB to fall into their laps with their second 1st rounder they are going to be in for a big shock because other teams around the league will be looking to jump them.
If we got Lamp and Feeney via trade back and then Kamara or Cook or Mixon, that'd be insane. (Using 12, 33 and 35)
Yeah I think people are underestimating the QB market this year. There are 4 top guys this year.
Teams that need a QB
Jets
Bears
49ers
Cardinals
Texans
Then you have teams with old quarterbacks who might want to set up for the future
Steelers
Giants
Saints
Chargers
Quote:The only trade I can see happening would be with the Browns. Browns move up to 4 and we get 12 and 33.
12. OJ Howard
33. Best OL available
35. D'onta Foreman
As was mentioned before, there could be several teams who want to trade up to 4 for a player they covet. However, it does seem like the Panthers and Browns are the most likely trade partners. Realistically, the Jags would get pick 33 to move back eight spots in the 1st round as you have said. My picks would be different, however.
12. Dalvin Cook
33. Dan Feeney or Dion Dawkins
35. Carl Lawson
I selected Cook over Howard for a couple reasons. Although Howard is clearly the top tight end, this position is incredibly deep and I would expect the Jags to take the best tight end on the board in round 3 (Hodges, Shaheen, Everett), round 4 (Sprinkle, Kittles) or even round 5 (Jonnu Smith).
Opinions vary widely on Cook and his stock has certainly dropped. That being said, he and Fournette have the highest ceilings by far (other than possibly McCaffrey) at this position. If they waited until round 2 or later for a running back, there is a big risk the guy may end up like Yeldon- a major disappointment. If the interviews with Cook go well and character is not a big concern this should be the pick.
Lawson's stock has also dropped due to medical concerns. He would be a risky pick, but his explosiveness coming off the edge would add greatly to the Jaguars pass rush.
I think it's doubtful we trade back, but it's fun to speculate. Panthers (Fournette), Saints (Allen/Thomas/Lattimore/Fournette), Bills (QB), and Browns (QB) are the teams I could see doing it. The Saints (pick 32) and Browns (pick 33), have the best ammo to do it. On a side note, I'm in the boat that if Solomon Thomas is there we stay put and take him. I think Fournette has massive bust potential.
Quote:Simple question - are there any realistic scenarios that would allow us to trade down and pick up extra picks?
The only player I believe anyone might trade up to four for is Fournette (if they believe he's a superstar who is a LOT better than the other RBs on offer) and even that is a bit far fetched.
Plus, why would anyone trade with us when they can deal with the Titans instead, knowing they won't pick a RB or QB (because they are set at both)?
A trade up for Allen maybe? That's about all I can think, because the QBs aren't going high this year.
Any other possible scenarios?
The only realistic scenario I see is where someone wants to get ahead of pick #5, because there is a threat that pick #5 could be traded to someone else. If we offer the same deal for pick 4 that the Titans offer for pick 5, then we get the deal.
But right now, I think there's only about a 5% chance of us being able to trade down, even if we want to.
Quote:Why #2 for Fournette since it's so obvious to everyone there's no way the Bears take him at #3.
Could be a case of knowing the Jags want him at #4 and the Bears are locked in for Allen at #3. The Bears may not be willing to deal but the 49ers are. Going to #2 is the only way to insure Fournette doesn't end up in a Jags uniform.
Not being a smart [BLEEP], but I don't know if we can come up with a realistic trade scenario without knowing who is actually looking to trade up.
Quote:Not being a smart [BAD WORD REMOVED], but I don't know if we can come up with a realistic trade scenario without knowing who is actually looking to trade up.
Not to mention most trade ups into the top 5 involved QBs. Cleveland, SF, Chicago all need QBs but yet they won't take them? Why? Because none of these QBs are that good.
3 QB desperate teams in front of us and a team right behind us that has advertised that they are open to moving down and have actually done it recently, unlike us.
There is not really a scenario where you can realistically say we should be the team to trade with for a QB.
Quote:Why #2 for Fournette since it's so obvious to everyone there's no way the Bears take him at #3.
the bears aren't totally devoid of talent like the 9ers are so they probably would rather stay put and take an impact guy than move out to fill holes. The 9ers are like last years browns, they just have too many holes to fill in a regular amount of picks.
Quote:Ok... but why move to #2 if you can move to #4 and get the same player?
Would it be because they think we are taking Fournette and want to get ahead of us?
Quote:Ok... but why move to #2 if you can move to #4 and get the same player?
Because they could be trying to get in front of us to steal fournette if were actually interested

The
Ravens should only trade
Timmy Jernigan if they can get a second-day draft pick in return, and that seems unlikely,
Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun writes. There has been speculation that the defensive tackle could be on the block and
coach John Harbaugh didn’t do much to slow down that talk when asked about it earlier this week. Jernigan, who is entering his contract year, appeared in every regular season game last season and totaled five sacks. He seemed to run out of gas towards the end of the season and his playing time was slashed down the stretch, but he still stands as Baltimore’s only interior pass-rush threat.
My commentary:
Given that Timmy Jernigan had 5 sacks for the Ravens in 2016 from the interior, I could see him as a rotational guy with Malik Jackson at the 3 Tech DT.
I might give up the Jags Rd 4 and latter Rd 7 Pick in a trade for Jernigan.
It is not a Day Two Pick but it is a high Day 3 Pick
Your thoughts?
the jaguars are looking to bolster the trenches still, obviously, so its intriguing. i wouldnt be mad if they did it. the chances of a 4th or 7th turning into a player on the same level of jernigan arent that high, so itd probably be worth it.
i do also understand keeping the picks and gambling though.

I'd want to
get picks in this draft. Not
give them.
The DTs on this roster currently are:
Michael Bennett, Sheldon Day, Calais Campbell (on nickel downs), Abry Jones, Malik Jackson, Louis Nix
Factor in the possibility of Jon Allen in the first round and I don't see a reason to squander a pick for a rotational DT.
Hell, they just let SenDerrick Marks walk. If they were hard up enough for a guy to get 20 snaps a game at 3 tech to blow a pick on him, they'd have just kept Marks.
