Caldwell is the best GM this team has ever had. He's smart, confident and shrewd at the same time.

Not giving up a 4th rounder and holding strong was a great move by Dave.

I knew Dave Caldwell was hired he was going to be much better than James Harris and Gene Smith.
I don't know what to say! I just moved back to Amelia Island after spending the last 5 years in Cincinnati. I grew up here, I'm a local. I have supported this team since its inception. I was a season ticket holder for the 2005-2010 seasons even though I couldn't afford it and I was raising two daughters. My two friends and I invested in season tickets because not only did we love the Jaguars, we knew that the impact on our city was greater than that. We loved this little slice of North Florida heaven and we wanted to do our part in helping it grow as the city we knew it could be!... I don't want to bad mouth Cincy, I learned so much there. I also met and made friends with a lot of amazing people. That being said I felt like I was serving a prison sentence. Since coming home, I landed my dream bar tending job on the Island I grew up on. The Amelia Tavern is "The Jaguars Bar" on Amelia Island! I am so proud to be back for what's about to happen! Extend Dave Now!

It's our time! We have all been through this together! It's our time now!
Sorry for the rant.
I now pronounce him "Draft Jedi" may the force always be with him.

I have been on the Caldwell train since day 1. Guy is not afraid to make a risky move, and he is a very, very smart dude.

You or anyone on this board probably is better than James Harris and Gene Smith!

Man i love Dave Caldwell from the moment when he said "Even If He's Released". lol. I knew right then and there i can ride with him.
Here we go again, some people never learn...

Well, at least Caldwell is good (not great) unlike Gene Smith.

I think Tony and Shad Khan really should think about giving Caldwell an extension.
Quote:You are talking about the same team whose biggest need is the defensive line because of two drug-related suspensions LOL. When was the last time Dallas did something smart?

I don't think what Dallas did was so bad.   Their offense lacks only one thing, and that is, an elite running back.   A good running game is great for a defense: keeps them off the field.   And, I think Elliott is one of the best players in the draft.   So, what they did, I can understand it.

This is a rare moment where I can completely agree with you!
I don't know, but I'll say this. When you can bring in guys like Jalen Ramsey, Myles Jack, Dante Fowler Jr, Blake Bortles, Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, Telvin Smith, Brandon Linder, AJ Cann, TJ Yeldon, Julius Thomas, Tashaun Gipson, and Malik Jackson you're doing great things.

Added best way to keep romo healthy is take the game out of his hands as much as possible not to mention Elliot is solid in pass pro.

I think it was the wrong call but see the logic

Well its true.

Ya'll finished, or Y'all done?
Quote:Agreed that Dave has been awesome. How are the cowboys idiots though? T they took a home one player with Elliot and gambled like we are on a player with a ton of upside.

Dallas went for the biggest immediate impact in the first round. OK, that makes some sense since Romo is in his last few years. But they could have traded down with the Ravens, still got their player, and netted an extra pick too.

But then they totally ignored immediate impact in the next round and drafted a guy who is, at best, only available in 2017. It's very likely he may never play football again. And it's not as if there wasn't a really great player also available.

That's idiotic. Either shoot for the Superbowl or build for the future. You can't do both and expect either one to succeed.

I agree with Malabar, the Dallas pick was solid, IMO, I like the idea of EE running behind that terrific Cowboy OL but... they could have gotten him a little later (that being said...1. it is likely harder than we all think to get a trading partner and 2. sometimes, if your guy is there, you just take him).

Their 2nd round pick (Jaylon) was just ridiculous, IMO. Get  a player who can play now with the Romo window closing.

Stop, you dont draft because of short term issues. They saw the last two years what difference a great RB does for them so they drafted a Marsall Faulk clone.
Quote:There's a certain level of luck involved with the draft. Caldwell said he wanted to trade back into the first to get Jack, but the 4th rounder price they were asking was too steep. He got a little lucky that Jack kept falling. But, other GM's would've forced the issue and given a better pick. Caldwell was also pretty shrewd for not giving more than he wanted, and he got the pick he wanted for a 5th.

That said, I really believe that Caldwell is a fantastic football personnel mind. There's an old adage that says "chance favors the prepared mind." Caldwell has put this team in position to do very well with the hands it's been dealt. That's where the genius come in. We're fortunate to have him, that's for sure.

Chance favors the bold. Sometimes doing nothing is bold.
