A second round this year and first next year? Or maybe a two this and next year...

hmmm...

what say you?

It depends on how far the other team would be trading up.
The QBs are gone so we aren't going to get a crazy deal. Think like a tad more than just the 4th we gave up to move from 7 to 5 to get Blackmon.

 Absolutely.

Also,  how far would the Jags be willing to trade down is something that will likely never become public knowledge.

Right, in fact Caldwell said that if they are offered to trade down like beyond the first 10 picks the team who wants to trade up need to contact them well before the draft starts as they are not trading down when they are almost on the clock as they need to evaluate calmly the situation.

While a trade down to 7-8-9-10 can be done almost on the clock as it's easier to assess the scenarios.

However personally for a trade down, any trade down, I'd need at least a 2nd rounder this year thrown in or I'm staying put.

Based on what you mentioned,  it's likely the Jags won't be trading out of the top 10.   W/o knowing in advance what will be available with pick # 5,   that eliminates most teams that have pick # 11 or later to be willing to trade up to #5 in advance.   Only for a team that has 3 players with similar grades that they would be willing to take at # 5 would it make sense for them to trade up in advance to # 5.

I could be not 100 per cent accurate about the out of the top 10 part though, it may have been later than that I just don't recall with precision around what pick would their limit be.

I clearly remember him saying though that trading down within the 10s can be done on the clock while the deeper they'd trade down the earlier they'd need to be offered about it.

Maybe around 11-12 could still be ok, but towards 15 to 20 they'd definitely need to know before unless a crazy trade offer comes up.

I agree with your logic of course Smile
Get a ransom of picks like the Titans and Browns if they want the 3rd best QB in this draft out of Memphis.

One possibility that comes to mind is the Jaguars trade down a few spots during the draft and then they decide to trade down a few more spots after getting another good offer.    So much depends on the Jaguars draft board.    The more top heavy their draft board is,  the less likely they will end up leaving the top 10 or 11.
Dolphins trade up from 13 to 5 to select Zeke Elliot.

Jax receives 13th pick, Dolphins 2nd round pick, and Dolphins 1st round next year.

It would be a VERY tempting offer for the Jaguars to consider.

Assuming this happened,  who would you want the Jaguars to take at # 13 based on realistic possibilities?

This  is what I was thinking. Maybe Giants...
I just don't think you're getting any future 1sts if a QB is not involved. A while ago maybe, but not anymore.

I would be SO all over this.......

Leonard Floyd?

It could be possible.

Or can also be possible that they are being contacted in advance by a team around pick 15 or beyond that and a potential offer like "if picks 3 and 4 go a certain way, we offer this package and we'll contact you on the clock with you knowing what offer we'd make you and what players would be available. If picks 3 and 4 go the wrong way for us then no trade scenario with us".

Perhaps we are even overthinking everything ahaha it's just these last couple of days are going reaaaally slow Smile

I'm thinking maybe Floyd, Lawson, William Jackson... Plenty of options.

I have to agree, but crazier things have happened. I think the Dolphins think that they're ready to win now and would love Zeke before he gets to Baltimore at 6.

Contingency offers are definitely possible.    It wouldn't surprise me if the Jaguars spoke to every team outside the AFC South at least once in the last week.

At least one of those 3 players should be available at # 13.   Based on my current projection,   all 3 will be there.   With Shaq Lawson going to Miami with pick # 13.
