I'm sure seeing his buddy Malik get paid and that ridiculous Vernon contract has something to do with it.
I would sign Miller over any defensive player in the NFL. Including JJ Watt.
If he becomes available after 2017, would we even be able to afford him by that time?
Quote: Years / Total / AAV
Von Miller (offer) 5 / $90,000,000 / $18,000,000
Malik Jackson 5 / $85,500,000 / $17,100,000
It's crazy how much GM Dave Caldwell over paid Jackson...
don't forget 41 million of it was guaranteed... :woot: good for him, hopefully he doesn't simply quit now..
shaking my head how is it that he gets paid more than JJ Watt?
If the Jags want any name FA which other teams also want, especially if they come from a Super Bowl winning team or even just a good team, they are going to have to overpay and overpay big.
That's just the way it is right now, not sure why you don't understand this.
Even offering to overpay and overpay big doesn't always work out for the Jags, see DeMarco Murray last year and Olivier Vernon this year. There was also someone else a few years back whose name escapes me.
The Jags just are not getting any name or big name free agents to sign here without overpaying them.
All Dave can do is structure the big contract in such a way that it is as team friendly as possible in case the player doesn't turn out to be the player the thought they were getting when they signed him to that overpaid contract.
Hopefully Dave continues his streak of signing Bronco players next offseason.
It's that time of year, but I am always amazed at the greed of these guys. They still play a game. They did not help the league get to the cash cow it is now why should they take so much of the profits. These guys nor their fathers were even born yet. I wish I could hold my company for ransom with the rest of the employees demanding profit sharing.
Yea right.
They should feel blessed with the god given ability to be lucky enough to play in the NFL.
Stop acting like spoiled children. It's like a he said she said. Hell these guys make more for playing one bleeping game of football than I will in my lifetime probably.
Remember that ......one bleeping game. It is ridiculous.
Steps off soapbox so the ......well you know crowd can chime in.

It's a business.
If he hits the market he's going to command insane money and he knows it.
He should get the best deal that he can, if he chooses. All it takes is one injury to take it all away and he's only going to get so many chances to cash in.
The NFL makes a fortune off these guys...the players are not where you should direct your anger.

You should really join the Evil Rich thread in the Politics forum, you'd fit right in.

Regarding the bolded, I beg to differ. I sure don't go to the games on Sunday to watch Gus Bradley walk the sidelines and Shad Khan sit in his press box sipping mixed cocktails and eating nachos and I'm sure millions of other fans don't tune in every Sunday to watch the refs blow their whistles and admire the green grass and pretty white numbers and lines on the field.
Without these players the NFL doesn't exist. That shouldn't be an argument. CBS, ESPN, FOX, and NBC pay big bucks to broadcast these games because of the players. If anything they should be making more. NFL player salaries pale in comparison to other major sports such as the NBA, MLB, and Soccer.

You mean 2 million per year? That's right, 2 million per year is what GM Dave Caldwell overpaid Jackson.
Do you know why? I'm guessing not, because if you had, you wouldn't be squealing like a jilted little schoolgirl.
Denver OFFERED Jackson 13 million per year. Now, stay with me. The Jags paid him 15 per year. If you subtract the 13 per year that the donks offered him, that equals 2 million per year overpaid.
I hope this clears things up for you.....

There are maybe 5 people on the planet that can perform like Miller can in a billion dollar industry.
If you had skills that in-demand and that rare you absolutely could hold your company for ransom.
My pon

And I beg to differ a little. The players now did not make the game great the players 30 yrs ago did. They did not cash out but these guys are. They got handed a silver platter full of gold by previous generations.
The rules today even make these guys play like pansies. Skills in demand? Well that is a product of society let the economy collapse worse than before and we will see how in demand these skills are.
These "players" couldn't operate this business of the NFL if there life depended on it to make it produce the profits that it does. They still play FOOTBALL. But whatever.

The average NFL player salary is 1.9 million a year. or 118,750 a game. You are a large burden on society if you aren't making that much at least every half decade or so.

I am always interested to know the political party people with this view are in.
This stance clearly goes against free market determining what the player will earn, but also promotes concentration of wealth to the minority (owners).
