isnt he in jail?

Quote:It is what it is like some said if he has a turn around ala Carter or Mike Williams better for us than sum one else if we release him an hes instantly reinstated goes somewhere and eats it up same people will spaz say why'd we release him

That also happened to the Tampa Bay Rays with Josh Hamilton. The Rays gave him countless chances. When they finally gave up and cut him, Hamilton decided to get clean and tear it up for the Rangers.

So, concerning Blackmon, I like what the Jags are doing. If he gets clean and plays, he'll do so with no team other than the Jags.
Quote:And what exactly will that do?

End the needless "why is Blackmon still with the organization" threads.
Quote:91% chance he never returns

191% chance he never returns.
Quote:Zero reason to do so.

Perhaps. But can you give me one reason why he should stay on the roster?

If Blackmon ever decides he wants to play, it goes through us first. Also if we want to recoup any of his signing bonus, he has to be on the roster.

A. The last thing on Blackmon's mind is ever playing professional football again.

2. He couldn't even if he wanted to. !

I don't think he has to be on the 53 man roster to get the money back, he just can't be cut.

I haven't read the entire 4 page thread, but here's my opinion.    He should stay on the roster because he represents potential value at zero cost.   It costs us nothing to keep him on the roster, he doesn't count towards the roster limit, and if he ever does come back, he is ours to do as we wish.  Play him or trade him.
Yesterday the Bills cut Tyrone Robertson from the reserve-suspended list. He last played for the Bills in 2002

It's not unusual to leave a guy on the suspended list for a long time. It costs you nothing and even if they have a 1% chance of returning to the NFL it's not worth the risk of cutting them and another team picking them up.

Wow!!! Last played in 2002, really?

I think it is safe to say that guy will NEVER play another down in the NFL.

How many players can 1 team have on this list at one time?

So, according to this post, the Jags might not cut JB until sometime around 2028 or so?

I wonder how many more JB threads we will see before then?
So we can have these threads, that's why we haven't cut him.

Because both are so valuable.

I'd say around 2028.  (Threads, not year in case I wasn't clear)
Just for reference, R. Jay Soward is still on our reserved-suspended list, so I doubt Blackmon is going to be removed from it any time soon.

I also think David Caldwell should cut Justin Blackmon. We are now loaded at WR and after being out of football for two years, Blackmon will have to compete for a roster spot in training camp if he chooses to play again. Why keep someone we obviously don't need knowing he has not made any attempt to apply for reinstatement? It is obvious Blackmon does not want to come back. Let's give another player #14.

see the previous explanations as to why we should not cut Blackmon.

If that is true how did other players get #81?
That big blank space on that brick wall over there should do nicely...

Numbers aren't assigned to suspended players?
