Anyone starting to feel a little concerned about Jack's health? He first comes out saying he'll perform at the combine. That's shut down. He then says he'll do everything at his pro-day. He does limited stuff (which was still nice btw!). Now he says he'll hold no personal pro-day and won't likely run the 40. Do y'all think his recovery is having issues? Or he's just being safe so he's ready to go for the start of the season for whichever team drafts him?
I'll admit it's starting to throw some flags up. I'm no doctor; so I'm not sure how much different running would be compared to jumping with his injury.
GO JAGS!!
Meh. Teams have his medical reports so it's not like he can hide anything. Sounds to me like he knows he is going to be drafted high and has nothing to gain.
I'm with you.
Maybe there is no long-term problem and he's just being careful, but this repeated changing of the plan should raise questions.
Even the die-hard Jack fans need to ask why he's had to change the plan repeatedly. The obvious answer has to be that he expected his recovery to be progressing more quickly. And that begs the question - why?

The latter. He's not 100% yet, which he's admitted, and he's unanimously considered a top 10 pick. His forty time isn't really going increase his draft stock much if at all, so there's no point for him to risk any sort of injury or even just a bad pro day which could cool his hype leading up to the draft.
He's not falling out of the top 5. What's to gain for him to have a personal pro-day? He has everything to lose and nothing to gain at this point. I'm sure he's fine, he's just not going to risk a potentially sub-par pro-day due to him not being able to work out like he's wanted to the past few months.
Quote:"He's close, but he's not totally ready, and I'm not gonna let him go out there and run an average time," Jack's agent, John Thornton, said Tuesday. "He's going back to Indy for a medical recheck on April 14th and 15th, so he won't be doing anything before then. If there's time -- and if he can prepare the way he needs to prepare -- he might run for a specific team in a private workout. But I feel like most of them have seen what they need to see."
Numerous NFL front office and coaching sources agreed with Thornton's assessment that Jack, projected as a top-10 pick, would not be hurt by his failure to run a 40.
"I don't think it will affect anything," said the head coach of one team with a top-10 pick. "He's doing a ton of great movement stuff."
Said another team's top personnel executive: "It won't hurt him at all. He's so good it doesn't matter."

It sounds like he and his agent are just playing it safe and TBH it's a smart move. He's a lock to go in the top 8 and this close to draft time Jack has nothing to gain and plenty to lose by running the 40. He's already demonstrated his explosiveness at his pro day by moving around well in positional drills and posting a 40 inch vert.
To add he's also going to a medical re-check to have the knee ok'd and his agent is willing to let him run in a private workout for a team if it's requested. This is a non issue.
I'm not worried about the knee, i've had the same injury and from all accounts from what i've seen mine was worse than his and I can back just fine, I certainly didn't take as long as he is taking though. I think he's just playing it safe at this point, im not nearly the athlete he is so im sure it might take a little longer for a world class athlete. But the only thing that worries me is he is running in the 4.7's and he knows that will absolutely affect his draft stock, though imo his film shows me hes a 4.6 or 4.5 guy.
It's the smart move from his and his agent's perspective, but it is concerning. I hope Adub's confidence based on his own experience is warranted here.
I would hate to think Jack is not a viable candidate for us because of this injury not healing properly.
Michael Silver just said on path to the draft that most GMs said its not a big deal but other GMs are starting to take pause.
I'm worried.....that he may be picked before 5.
That's would suck.

Hopefully those are GMs picking 1-4.

After reading this it makes more sense now, I had the torn part of my meniscus removed from my outer knee and Jack had it stiched back. So in reading that it gives me more optimism in him coming back 100%, they say when you stich it, the recovery is longer, but I assume it's better long term as it should avoid osteo arthritis. Which I have yet to encounter and it's been 7 years since my knee surgery and they removed 75% of my 2 outer pads(meniscus), so after reading that it makes me even more positive about him recovering a 100%.
Yeah believe theyre just playing it safe. Its not like anyone really needs to see his 40 anyway his speed isnt in question. Next Medical exam is the only box id need checked.

Perfectly said.
End thread.
Interesting thoughts from Ryan O'Halloran on the radio.
He suggested Jack's agent might have been contacted by one or more teams high in the draft who say they are prepared to pick him. And because he now knows he will get his name called early on draft night, his personal pro day isn't necessary.
Of course, that's probably just speculation, but it would be bad news for us, because it would suggest a team high in the draft (Dallas maybe?) is ready to pick him.

Maybe that team was us

This doesn't seem likely. Most teams don't tip their hand to anyone, let alone agents.
The reason it is taking a long time is because he took the alternative route in meniscus repair. Usually a laproscopic procedure is done and cartilage is taken out. He elected to not have the cartilage taken out, and let it heal on its own. The laproscopic excision on average takes about a month to recover (myself I have had 3 and they took much longer), his route is about 6 months. Knees are a funny thing, and its all about having confidence in the knee. He will be fine, just give him time.
In the last 10 years Aaron Curry is the only linebacker selected in the top five who didn't have pass rush as his main specialty. Von Miller went second overall and he is more of a "rush backer". So, Jack, despite recovering from a knee injury, having yet to clock elite athleticism, and pass rushing never being featured as his game is supposed to go top 5.

we all know he has elite athleticism we dont need him to run in a straight line to prove it
