While it's a bit of a long shot, it's possible both these players could be available when we pick in the second. Let's just assume Myles Jack is the pick in the first round. If both were there when we pick which would you take? It would be a very hard decision for me I can tell you that much. I think if you put a gun to my head I would take Whitehair. He would solidify our interior OL for the next 6-8 years and has the versatility to play 4 out of the 5 OL positions.
Id go Lawson if for some crazy reason he falls to us. I however wouldnt mind Whitehair either.
If we take Jack in round one we have to take the best edge rusher available. So I would take Lawson if he was there which I don't think he will be. I would take Yannick or Noah. If we go Bosa round 1 Whitehair would be a good choice in the 2nd.
I would take Lawson, however, the recent busts coming from that school at that position (Branch, Bowers) give me some pause.
I would take Lawson, since ya know two top 10 picks would be nice.
But Lawson's not a top 10 pick.
You'd be nuts not to take Lawson in that scenario, but it's a moot point because he'll be gone within the top 20 picks.
I think Lawson is a guy who is getting hyped up by the usual crew of internet draftniks that the NFL is not necessarily as high on.

The topic says, "In the Second."
I'd take him in the 2nd round. I might take him late in the first round, too.

Lawson led the country in tackles for loss along with 12.5 sacks. Looked good all season, looked great in the championship game, and put up good numbers at the combine. Why would teams not be high on him?

I don't know, but I remember one year, we drafted Lemanzer Williams who led the country in sacks with 18.5 at the University of Minnesota, and we got him in the 6th round, and he never did anything in the NFL. So just because you lead the country in various stats, that doesn't mean you should be drafted in the first round.

Personally, I just go on what the so-called experts like Mike Mayock are saying, and that is, that Shaq Lawson is about the 25th best player in the draft.

Yeah he might not go in the top ten but I would be shocked if he slid past 20 at this point. (Unless that shoulder isn't right)

did you only read the first 8 words in my comment? I agree with most that Mayock says too but do you have any opinions for yourself? You say experts but you only bring up Mayock
I think Lawson is a top 10 player in this draft bit I would still take a true number one corner over him like VH3, the best player imo Jack, and the best edge rusher imo Bosa

Granted, but lawson has production and elite athletacism. I think they said he is the only guy to grade out as a force player among all the edge rushers.
I havent seen much of him, but history shows that his body type athletacism and production at a big school usually doesnt last past pick 15.

but one time we drafted a guy that led the country in tackles for loss and he was a bust, so Lawson=bust

No, that's not what I said. What I said was
just because a guy had great stats in college, that doesn't mean he'll be a great pro.

The question is whether he does in fact have "elite athleticism."

"Productive backup for two years before putting together an All-American season in his first year as a full- time starter. Lawson is built like a full-grown man and combines his instincts, toughness and power to fill up a stat sheet and set an early tone. Lawson's frame and game are easily translatable to the NFL, but his
average athleticism and pass rush skills will likely have teams viewing him as a 3-4 edge setter or a 4-3 base end. Lawson may also have value as 3-4 defensive tackle in an upfield scheme."

of course it dont, did you ignore the production in college and the numbers he put up at the combine?
