Good for Alualu....nice guy.  However, nothing lost here that can not be easily replaced.

Quote:He never lived up to the #10 pick, but that's on Gene Smith...not Alualu.

And JDR

Tyson blew his knee out doing those stupid Oklahoma drills and was never the same since
Tyson is a good guy.  It's good to see him land with a contender to wind down his career.  As a rotational guy, he'll have a lot less pressure on him.

Another 1st rounder bites the dust...

The Jaguars have one player on their roster from any draft prior to 2014.

One, Marcedes. It's depressing.
Alualu was one of my favorite players to watch.  He always worked hard, showed up for work, and never quit.  Can't say that about a solid percentage of NFL guys.

I will for the last time get to argue that Alualu could have been a beast if he didn't wreck his knee in that Oklahoma drill. The original Aaron Donald ultra freak athletic prototype.

Quote:Jerrad is just being hard headed.  He knows Alualu is a solid player.  He just can't get over where he was picked.
I've never quite understood this rationale when defending players-most notably Alualu-against criticism.

No player really controls where he's picked in the draft.  However, it doesn't absolve the player from having to perform.

Furthermore, Alualu seems to be the only guy to which I've ever seen this argument apply.

Nobody ever said it was R Jay Soward's fault he was picked in the first round.  Same with Matt Jones, Reggie Williams, Justin Blackmon, Harry Deligianis, Derrick Harvey, Brian DeMarco, et al.

They are simply summarily dismissed as busts.

Why does Alualu get kid gloves?

One of the most reliable players the Jags have ever had. A valuable commodity for a football player. He was paid well for it though, 33 million over his two contracts. Now he will earn some more. Good for him. Always liked him and hate to see him go.

Reliably nondescript.
Quote:Let's be real. Tyson is a great human being. But he was a bum of a football player for his time here.

Let's be real.  Steelers wouldn't sign him if he was a bum of a football player for his time here.

In the examples you gave, the Jaguars picked those guys where the media and other teams thought they should be picked.

Fewer people defend Derrick Harvey and Brian DeMarco because they were simply never good, that's not controversial.

Blackmon did very well on the field, and Reggie Williams and Matt Jones were decent contributors for a little while, legal/substance abuse problems ended their careers.

So fewer people defend those guys because of their off the field issues.
He going to be hating the friggin cold. Hawaii, California then Florida. Now, Blizzardburgh. Button up braddah.

I get not being willing to defend a guy with a litany of off field issues like Soward.  But he had no more control over his draft position than Alualu.  Besides, just because the media didn't expect Alualu to be a top ten pick doesn't absolve him from the responsibility of producing like one.

But the most important thing to me is the phrase I have placed in bold.

How does the phrase in bold not apply to Alualu?

Is he a nice/decent/wholesome guy?  By every account I've heard, the answer is an overwhelming yes.

But what did he do for us?  He's given us snaps, but no game changing/momentum changing plays during his time here.  No stretches where he approached dominance.  Not even a game where we looked at him and could even list him as a matchup advantage or someone opposing offenses had to account for.

He's this generation's Renaldo Wynn.
He was terrible. But good for him.
Quote:Abry Jones was an UDFA. Hardly what should be considered "scrap heap"

Pretty much everyone agrees he never should have went in the first round. But calling him a bum is unfair to him. He was a solid rotational guy.
Lol Undrafted Free Agency is about as "scrap heap" as it comes in the NFL. Seriously, what would be lower than UDFA?

Alualu was a terrible Jaguar. Dude was constantly underwhelming in the beginning of his career, got his job stolen by SLIGHTLY less terrible Dlinemen, then was a healthy inactive for 2 games this year.

He's a good guy, and I wish him the best, but he's about as easily replaceable as it gets.

I remember everyone saying he hurt his knee during the Oklahoma drill, but do we know that to be true?

Because I saw him go up against Manuwai and walked away fine without any apparent injury.
Lol KY you have no idea what you're talking about.

Funny someone can "wreck" their knee and never miss a game their whole career due to injury.

EDIT Here's the video, prepare urself for the most anticlimactic "injury" you've ever seen.

Quote:If he's such a "bum"...why would the squeelers sign him to a 2 year contract?

Same reason we signed the Steelers DC Ziggy Hood to a 4 year deal.

both 1st round picks

both busts

Hood - 197 games - 13.5 sacks

Alualu - 258 games - 17.5 sacks

they both suck !!

You guys and your sack stats...
