Not a fan of the O-Hole

Ryan O is usually pessimistic as a writer regardless. Him and Dempsey usually have different views on things. Makes for good radio. For the most part, like Dempsey told him a few weeks ago. Ryan can say what he wants and think what he wants. But nationally, this off-season, Caldwell's efforts to improve the team, especially on defense got him some great reviews, comments and remarks. He tried to get a pass rusher that made sense. He didn't get that done. He still walked away with addressing the front four in Jackson and the secondary in Amukamara and Gipson. And he still has next month to draft more guys. And it's more than likely going to be one of his first two or three picks that gets us a starting pass rusher to compliment Fowler Jr. who is our pass rusher we didn't see at all last year that people have forgotten about. And then you get a healthy Marks pairing up with Jackson and Odrick who played respectfully last year as well.

Print media took another step toward the graveyard, with the T-U site requiring a subscription now.  Thanks, T-U.  I won't waste time skimming the T-U stories only to find a recap of something that happened 20 hours prior.  Maybe someday they will QUIT THROWING TRASH ON MY DRIVEWAY EVERY WEEK.  Their little trash bag of ads is the perfect Poster Child for modern journalism.  Luckily it arrives on Recycle Day and goes right in the bin.

As for O'Halloran's C- grade and suggested $100 million contract for Vernon, it's just his version of forum trolling.  It's exceedingly stupid but got a reaction.

O'Halloran's pasty face and whispery voice are perfect for print media that nobody reads.  Unfortunately, he tries to venture into the voice and video realms where his dearth of talent is stunningly obvious.  I never actually hear what Ryan says on the radio because by the time I get it turned up loud enough to hear that babydoll voice, I've usually missed most of it and then I get Dempsey's answer at 120db as I dive for the volume knob.

Am I the only one that's happy we didn't give Vernon $85 mil? He said Jacksonville wasn't city enough for him, we would of had to pay him more than Malik to have had him sign here. Thanks but no thanks, I'm not for the idea of just throwing 90$ mil contracts at people just to come here, especially for a pass rusher that has had 1 season of double digit sacks, regardless of our cap situation.

People act like Caldwell didn't try to get a pass rusher. He tried for all of the top names, and it didn't work out. I imagine it's rare for a team to hit on all of their holes in one free agency period.
I said Vernon and Andre Branch were the same player.  They do well when pressure up the middle flushes the QB to them.  If they don't get that, it's Kabuki Sumo wrestling for 60 plays.

I'm glad we didn't sign Vernon for that much, he's just a mediocre pass rusher with only one double digit sack year back in 2013.

I thought Caldwell should have, but apparently didn't, try to sign Mario Williams. He would have come much cheaper and has a better record of rushing the passer, other than last year when he was lined up at LB instead of DE.

Quote:When we can't rush the passer like last season and lose games because of this and then the current regime is fired, who will look stupid then?

And when we paid Vernon so much money to be the guy and he gets us 8 sacks at a contract ridiculous enough to cause us to not be able to afford all 4 of Allan Robinson, Bortles, Telvin, and Linder who is going to look stupid.

you don't pay JJ Watt lvl money for a guy who produces 2/5s as much.  Marks is a better pass rusher than Vernon

I agree, I also wanted Williams.
I usually skip through the segments when Ryan O is talking, sometimes I don't even listen to the radio show when he is on there. You can not force these guys to sign!!!

I didn't only because i question his effort when things aren't going well.
JAX is a small  market. It's where young writers start out and as talent is recognized, larger market's offer employment.

It's also where old, worn out writers come to establish residency before they retire.

Prisco, Bianchi, Wetherby, and others have moved up and out.

Ry-O easily could turn into Vito, spending his whole career in one market, can you say Frangy....

Umm, Vito reported on football in Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Jax. He's is a quirky old guy, but he is in the Hall of Fame as a sportswriter.

Not sure that is the right comparison.  Smile
