I feel like he's out best option at SS, although I certainly wouldn't be adverse to seeing someone brought in for the role.

No, but a 2nd LEO, an OTTO and a SS would be nice.

Jack could probably do 2 of those 3

Probably 3 of 3, given a role on downs.

It is weird that Jackson got all the news because of the money but Gipson was the biggest need which many have the most faith in him being able to perform his role.

Dave said on the radio today they almost did the 2nd round tender last year with Gipson so they really wanted him.

Dave's been keeping tabs on him for a couple of years now.

Never heard it called Sample before though.

When healthy and allowed to play SS the way the scheme is designed as a run stopping / pass rusher J. Cyprien is good in that role. He has had many up and down moments every week, needs to be more consistent & Sample might give him that competition boost but I doubt he'll start over Jonathan.

Josh Evans might also be a wildcard at SS. If you were noticing this past season, Evans was starting to become more and more physical as a DB. Every now and then he'd lay on a hit that reminded me of Sensabaugh. If he manages to improve of that this offseason, he might just prove to be our most physical DB while earning the start at SS over Cyp, Sample and anyone else.
On a side note, I also heard that Earl Wolff is vying for the SS spot. Apparently he's pretty good, but has stayed out of the lime-light due to injuries.
Meanwhile, it looks like there's a fight going on for the backup FS spot between Sergio Brown and Craig Loston (and Sample if he doesn't win the starting SS spot).

I think Josh Evans would be a great staring SS. He's been playing way more physical these past 2 seasons. Remember his rookie year when he arm tackled EVERYONE?

I am one of the few around here who actually thinks Evans is pretty solid. That being said, "great starting SS" is a stretch.
