Someone choosing New York over Jacksonville based on lifestyle isn't a big deal to me. It's done in every day life so why is it any different for an NFL player? There are people that choose Jacksonville because it's not as crazy as New York, so why couldn't it be the other way around? If I was making millions of dollars I would want to have fun wherever I was living and he would rather do it in a city with a better night life. Not a huge deal.
The fact that their contract was front loaded made it a no brainer. His agent basically used Jacksonville against them and New York basically lost out on the deal by offering a huge front loaded contract. In my opinion, a guy that has done what he has in the past isn't worth that kind of deal. I would have been a tad upset if we would have gotten him at that price. You don't give a guy JJ Watt money if he isn't JJ Watt.
Quote:"I’ve been in Miami all my life, 25 years," Vernon said. "It was like, I know New York is probably a little more faster paced, but I am a city guy myself and I think it will probably be a little better for me than Jacksonville. I don’t know if I would have been comfortable in Jacksonville, just with the whole environment. It’s a beautiful city. I’ve been there, I’ve played there twice, but I just don’t know if I would have been comfortable over there."

It proves the thought that GM Dave Caldwell has to over pay to get players to want to come here..
What he was really saying, that the women in Jacksonville aren't beautiful like in Miami or New York. Also, to much of a redneck and ghetto atmosphere.

....and people that don't know the difference between two, too, and to.
Quote:Well, blindly firing away seems to be a pretty good analogy when it comes to your thought process.
There's nothing to indicate that the team would be guaranteed to be so much better that the wins would just be piling up if only they'd topped the Giants offer. History is chalked full of free agent signings for ridiculous money that didn't pan out. Far more busts than booms actually. But hey, you value winning. I value building the team the right way and assuring that once the winning starts, it doesn't evaporate a minute later because the team is in salary cap trouble. I lived through the end of the Coughlin era. Clearly you didn't.
I was here for Coughlin as well. I dont think he made the difference in playoffs or not but when you are as bad as we are and have been you have to overpay for talent. To think that we would be a first choice over a big market team with much more recent success is crazy.
You guys are all wrong about money, Vernon just didn't want to be here
And the hoax was childish and his agent might have said jax fans play childish games.
Even though the majority of us dont repesent that.
It might be sour grapes, but I'm glad the Jaguars didn't outbid the Giants for Vernon. Although there is no doubt that pass rusher is the team's greatest need, it wouldn't surprise me if Vernon turns out to be a bust. The Jaguars can use some of that money to re-do the contracts of Hurns, Robinson, Bortles and Smith so they are locked up for several years. They'll still have money to sign another good player like the Steeler's offensive tackle visiting today or someone else who gets cut priot to the season due to salary cap issues. Between Vernon and Jackson, I would take Jackson every time even though they play different positions. He and Marks will make our LEO's look even better and I have a hunch Bosa will be our pick and make everyone forget how we missed out on Vernon.

So you know him personally then?

Yes,he said this,in so many words.

You must not have been paying attention. How do I get question for saying he doesn't want to be here after he says "Jax wasn't city enough" but no one asks if they know Caldwell personally when he says "they let Vernon walk"

He doesn't have to, he's been quoted saying it.
Well compared to nyc.. I mean can you blame him

And $17 million more doesn't hurt!
Quote:All this cap money...absolutely ridiculous
Do you need a waambulance? Would you really want to throw all the cap space money at a guy that didnt want to be here?
I think Joey Bosa will be drafted and it wont matter...

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder because I see a lot of hot women...
