Wow, after reading that article the dangers of free agency are so clearly on display. If Caldwell had kept increasing his offer he possibly could of had Vernon here. In turn we would have had a slightly above average DE playing here while his heart was in New York because it's sexy. Jags would have never received full effort and dedication. He didn't even want to talk to the jags coach or coordinator. All that for record setting guaranteed money? Oh hell no! Jags dodged a bullet here folks.
Quote:I can't believe people refuse to see that it's just an obscene amount of guaranteed money. That's ridiculous. You're saddled with a $50+million debt whether the guy sucks or not. For some guy that almost certainly is not worth THAT kind of money...just because it's a weak FA for pass rushers. I give Caldwell credit for backing off of that foolishness.
Screw him.
+1
I bet Giants fans didn't even know who Vernon was until last week..
You can't force a guy to play somewhere he didn't want to play. He wanted to be in New York and they offered him a king's ransome. Good for both of them. It's Olivier Vernon we're talking about here, not Lawrence Taylor or JJ Watt. Relax. You can't sign everybody.

We never sign ANYBODY!!! We got a 3 technique from Denver not Miller, not Ware, not Wolfe. We got the one they didnt keep

Fixed it for you.

no sir they chose not to keep. Wolfe resigned during the season and Miller was franchised. That is where the priority was. All offseason it was wait on free agency and this is what we got

How's the sand? Must be quite warm on your cheeks.
Haven't read this whole post, but....
The Jags went after Vernon just as hard as NY. Take look at what his agent said regarding the matter. Look at the "play by play" yesterday from Peter King. People just assume because he didn't sign that the effort by DC and crew wasn't there. It's ridiculous.

He didnt come because we suck!!! Read the quotes. We are still the same ole Jags
It's too early in the league year for butthurt comments like this. You're not invited when we host a playoff game this year.
That article really makes me want to root against the guy. Couldn't even call Bradley himself to give him the news? Man up.
What I find amazing is that an owner will allow a GM to make moves like this in a desperate attempt to save his job. What happens if they have a horrible year? GM is gone and they are in salary cap hell? Maybe Goddell's intent is to keep raising the salary cap every year so the perennial favorites will never have salary cap issues?

Ive never been to your house for a game watch party so why would I expect a invite now

From what I have read, Denver was willing to offer him 13 million a year to stay.

Buuwwwaaaa! You mad bro? Don't like this "board"? Leave. Your opinions won't be missed.
Vernon chose a city, not a team. He wanted out of Florida. I hope he gets all the northern hospitality he can stand. His mindset is on display in that article and it's a mindset that made a decision based on geographic location vs football reasons.
I wont lie he would have helped but that contact was not worth it. He got Von Miller money and he is not that good. I want players that want to be here and if thats his sentiment so be it.
For his sake i hope he puts up 14 sacks and really dominates on his side of the ball cause that media up there will crucify him lol.
