Full Version: Anybody else starting to feel like 2016 might be the weakest draft class in years?

It looks just fine to me as long as you don't want a TE.

It doesn't have a ton of depth at the flashy positions (QB, WR, RB) but a ton at the other spots. But who the hell knows until we get a few years down the road and look back.

Depends on what you look for in a TE.

Today, they aren't much more than big, slower receivers.
It certainly appears to be one of the weakest pre draft classes in years.

On offense, RB and Oline are about average and have solid depth. QB, WR, and TE are very poor.

Defense is definitely the strength of the draft. Defensive line, interior and edge, are both deep for 4 rounds. Linebacker seems a little thin after the 2nd round, but the first 2 rounds are pretty good. Corner and safety seem a little weak to me. Outside of VH3, Ramsey, and a few fringe players, there isn't much left in my opinion.

Butt returning hurt the TE depth for sure.

It took me longer than I'd like to admit to make sense of this post.

This draft is definitely Butt-hurt.

So, since Safety is thin and defensive line is deep, that tells me that if Ramsey and Bosa are both on the board at #5, and if we have them both rated highly, the smartest thing to do would be to take Ramsey, and wait for the later rounds to shore up the defensive line.

?
If you base the strength of a draft on the number of first round QB prospects, then yes it may be a weak draft.

But every report I've seen has indicated this is an insanely deep DL draft.  According to Mayock, there are DT prospects who will go in the 3rd and 4th round this year who would be first-second round prospects in other years.

Safety isn't thin though. Vonn Bell, Jeremy Cash, Karl Joseph, Keanu Neal, Deon Bush, among others. There are a ton of safeties, and many of them are very versatile.

But you started a thread about this being the weakest class in years?

:teehee:

I'm just messing with ya, it is shallow at a few positions.

Darian Thompson might be the best of all of them too.
Idk about people who are just starting to feel this way. I think it's been a pretty common sentiment on here for a while now.

As said, QB, WR, TE, very weak.

As a team who is pretty well set on offense and is looking to go defense heavy though, we are in a prime position.

Not only that, teams with offensive needs will be reaching hard.
The thing with positions like S or C, is that rarely is there more than one or two with a first round grade... and of those even fewer are worth taking anywhere near the top.

So, if not Ramsey early there should be value later.  You're just not going to necessarily plug in a starter day one with the alternative.

Safety is one of those dime a dozen positions, where it's easy to find bodies but more difficult to find and develop quality out of them.

Quote:It is better than the 2013 draft class. I think Carson Wentz emerges as best QB in this draft. WR this year is a very weak thin line of talent available. Don't know too much about OL but there is talent there. Only one RB that might go in the 1st. DL and DB are the best positions for this draft.

The 2013 draft was one of the weakest drafts ever, possibly even the weakest draft ever.

It would be hard to be worse then that one. Wasn't Joeckel a "can't miss prospect"? UGH!!!!!!! I don't ever see him living up to the #2 pick in the draft. He might be serviceable, but more is expected from the #2 pick.

Just go back and look up that 2013 draft and see how you would rank them 1-32.

Looking back at it now, who should the Jags have drafted at #2?

IMO, last year was worse, yet with all the Winston/Marioto talk I guess folks didn't notice.

No real QB talk to ice the cake, so to speak, this year.  It's more like the Bradford or Stafford draft, but those ended up being very good ones outside the QB position (which was thin.)

I agree. I know they wanted to attack the offense side of the ball first but I would have wanted to trade down and select Ansah DE.

Nine Pro Bowlers in the first round isn't shabby, but you're right.  The very top was scary, and there was little or nothing after the third round.

This draft should be deeper than that, easily.
This draft is way better than 2013. WR isn't bad, it's just not on the level of the last two classes that were all time great WR classes. It's still just fine though.

I also think QB is good. Goff, Wentz, and Lynch all have star potential. Cook looks like an average long time starter, and there are some solid developmental guys like Prescott and Matt Johnson. There are plenty of classes where there isn't a single long time starter at QB.

The 2014 draft was special.
