Quote:As to the bolded text, I assume you are talking injuries and not erroneous shotgun snaps here.

I still get nausea thinking about those botched shotgun snaps from last year.
Yes, injuries is what I meant. As far as bad snaps go, he was credited with 4...one of which was Blake's fault. I just don't think that out of over 1,000 snaps we should really be knocking someone so much for having 3 bad ones, that's a minuscule percentage.

It's also a fallacy to assume that whoever we brought in would have zero, which would have to be a truth to realistically hold the bad snaps against Wiz as well I believe. It's basically a non issue to me honestly.
Quote:McLeod, Iloka, and Abdul-Quddus are all 27 or younger with PFF grades of 80 or higher last year. Very impressive trio for Dave to target if he wants to improve the secondary.
you and your pff grades lol.
If you actually watched the games instead of use spider charts and pff grades you would of knew Teddy had one of the weakest arms and was the definition of qb purgatory lol
I'll get on that Iloka wagon. Dude does it all.
Offense:

Quote:Mack: Better run blocker

Wiz: 3 years younger, more reliable (0 missed snaps last year, only 12 in entire career), much cheaper, better pass blocker

I don't mind looking to upgrade Wiz with Kelly/Conklin/Allen in the draft or moving Cann to C if we get a nice young guard like Osemele/Brooks, but I think we're going to be really disappointed with what we get if we pay Mack 10+ mil AAV.

I wouldn't even say a better run blocker. Mack had a terrible year.

The Alex Mack hate is strong in you.

He didn't have a terrible year.  Down year?  Yes.  I'll gladly take a center who had his worst career year, coming off an injury, that still represents an upgrade and still made a Pro Bowl.  He probably didn't deserve the Pro Bowl nod, but he was still above average as a center.  The encouraging thing is that he got stronger as the season went on.  This has all the earmarks of an off-season caused by recovery from a broken leg.

I doubt he commands over 10 million per year average.  I think he'll sign somewhere between 8 and 9.5 million per year.  Hopefully it's with the Jaguars.

He could just not opt out and get 8 million per year right?

I am as much a Browns fan as I am a Jags fan. I attended several games this past season. Alex Mack played like garbage and his broken leg didn't explain looking confused and stepping on his guards' feet and getting thrown directly back several times a game into his QB. Shanny ran a ZBS and Mack looked good in that. In a power blocking scheme, he stinks. Flip ran the exact same style of offense as Olsen (he learned under him) and Mack looked like hot garbage. Picking him up would be a highly priced bad idea.
My wishlist:

Eric Berry ($10 million per year) - Hard to imagine he leaves KC, but he should be by far the Jaguars top priority if available.  He is exactly the type of FS that the Jaguars need - a rangy, play making free safety with SS physicality and instincts.  He's the closest thing to Earl Thomas.

Mario Williams ($12 million per year) - It's obvious we need a pass rush and Mario would fit at RE or LE.  The real question is how much does Mario make?  Production and age-wise, he should probably be around 6 million, but everyone in their right mind knows that there will be a big market for him.  Most believe his decline in production was a direct result of being moved to 3-4 linebacker, a position which Mario openly opined about.  Twelve million is more of a guess, because it's very difficult to close in on a market value for him.  Demarcus Ware got $10 million at nearly the same age and was moved to linebacker, so $12 million seems like a fair start.  There is the Doug Marrone connection.

Olivier Vernon ($12 million per year) - Vernon could probably play some LE, but would be most suited for RE.  Pair him with Mario Williams and you suddenly have every downs pass rush coming from both ends.  He'll likely command $10-12 million per year.

Alex Mack ($9 million per year) - At worst, he's a small upgrade over Wiz.  At best, he's an All Pro center for the duration of his contract.  He's got the experience to play zone and power which we've been a mix of as of late.  $9 million makes him the highest paid center in the league.

Janoris Jenkins ($10 million per year) - Now that the Rams have $58 million, it's unlikely either of their corners get away.  I think that it's late in the game and that both corners will test free agency now that it's so close.  The only hope is that the Jaguars are willing to match any offer by the Rams and that Jenkins would rather return home to Florida than play in LA.

Yes, but all indications are that he wants to leave Cleveland.  He can get the same or more pay somewhere that he'd rather play.

Olsen doesn't run the same offense that he ran in Oakland.

Didn't Alex Mack play for Rob Chudzinkski in 2013 when he made the Pro Bowl 1st ballot?  I'm pretty sure Chud runs exclusively a power/gap scheme.

I may be disembarking the Mack hype train.

He's good, and after watching some nflrewind coaches angles of Browns games mid-season I still think he's better than Wiz, but....

I don't know if he's worth that approx. $10 mil figure he'll probably get if he opts out.

He looked good in pass pro but whiffed here and there when run blocking  - and he didn't move his guy off of his spot enough for my taste in the run game.

I would say "go get the best LG available and slide Cann to Center"  but I'm not as certain about Cann at C as some are.

If he's truly capable, then I'm more interested in Osmele than Mack in free agency.

I still would like to see  Vernon and Weddle offered deals from the Jags.

Agree completely with the Osmele signing and Cann to center slide. It feels right and could be a big upgrade at two positions with one signing, if Cann is a respectable center.
Show them the money:

Olivier Vernon

Tashaun Gipson

Trumaine Johnson

Kelechi Osemele

Gravy:

Malik Jackson

Bruce Irvin

Danny Trevathan

Avoid:

old man Weddle

half-effort Mario

If you get a chance to watch footage, Flip ran a very similar offense that Olsen ran last year. Mack struggled when he wasn't in the ZBS.

I agree that the Browns and Jags were similar offenses, but the Raiders offense was much different with Olsen.  They were more West Coast when they were there.  It's been well-documented that Olsen's offenses have constantly adapted to personnel.

Like I said, Alex Mack was an All Pro selection with a gap scheme in 2013 under Chudzinkski.  He played zone in 2014 for 6 games under Shanahan.  He has proven he can play either scheme at a high level.  Alex Mack improved as the season wore on which indicates to me that he was regaining his pre injury form.  He wasn't even cleared to practice until last August.  I'll give a perennial Pro Bowler that had a season long injury and had a mediocre start to the following season before regaining form the benefit of the doubt.
A 10 million dollar gamble. Bold move, Cotton.
