Noah Spence has come out and said he has had a problem with drug addiction since high school. With our experience with substance abusers such as Matt Jones and Justin Blackmon, I would be very hesitant to take Spence that high. Maybe if we trade down and get an extra 2nd round pick I might take him, but at #5, I want a guy without any red flags.

In 2013 with the Buckeyes, he made First Team All Big 10. What many don't comment on, and showing some better side to his character, he also made First Team Academic All Big 10. I would encourage anyone that wants to get a better feel for this guy's character to read the article linked below. I have got to say...it opened my eyes. I am now pulling for this kid.

With Dave being a needs drafter and with a bigger need at FS, I fully expect he will go Ramsey at 5. But I also think there's a decent chance Ramsey doesn't make it that far. Should that happen, I would be all for taking Spence there. The more I see of this guy, the more I like.

Ecstasy ain't bad just doesn't go hand in hand with the life of an athlete.
Does seem like a good kid.

For me the bigger problem is that he was stupid enough to risk his career (by taking the drugs) in the first place, then lie about it, then do it again!
Maybe it was just immaturity, but it makes you worry about his off-the-field decision making, especially with the NFL so keen on coming down hard on drugs.
But if you're willing to take that risk with the number five pick, there is no doubt he has talent.

No thanks, not worth the risk when you have prospects just as good or better without the red flags

That was expunged. But yeah maybe trouble follows him.

He looks a little stiff

I agree with the OP. If he checks out well with Caldwell in the character department, for me, I think Spence is the best defensive player in the draft.

There is no reason Ramsey should be top 5 anything when the safety class is deep

Totally agree. Matt Jones. Justin Blackmon. RJ Soward! ENOUGH! NO MORE!

Seems awfully risky for pick #5 considering Ramsey, Jack or Bosa will be there.
He could be like Robert Quinn or he could be like Blackmon........

I like Spence, and hope he has turned his life around. I just dont think we can pick him at 5 with the red flags, when one of Ramsey, Bosa or Jack are going to be available at the same spot.
He'll likely be drafted in the 10-15 range.

Didn't we see fallers last year because of these off field issues...
Shane Ray and another guy who's name slips my mind... (maybe someone Dallas drafted?)
Either way... I think Nkem and Spence are top ten talents that slide because of questions and concerns....
But neither will slide far enough for us to make a move on them, and neither's talent is so out of this world that we should risk top 5 pick with Ramsey, Bosa, Jack, VH, and a couple other guys in play very able to help this team immediately with fewer, or little, or no, questions and concerns on character and motor.

He's talented no doubt, but what happens when he can't stay away from the drugs, like he's proven time and again? What good is this amazing talent if he's not able to play for us due to a suspension? Even if he checks out NOW or whatever, there's no way to know that he won't continue to struggle with his drug addiction. Simply being drafted into the NFL has proven not to be that much of a deterrent.
As others have said, there's amazing talent to be had there without the red flags.
