Quote:I completely agree. All the showmanship is getting out of control. The winking at the camera and the diving across the goal line.
The greats don't do all that.
You're a big fan of the commissioner then, right? Because he agrees with you, and they have progressively added rules to the game to take any fun out of it. You're right there with them wanting to turn the NFL into as bland a product as possible.
I have no issue with the showmanship or anything Cam did the whole game except for one instance. On the play where Cam dove over top to score he was more worried about getting the ball and dabbing to the crowd than he was the rest of his offensive line and crew getting in a fight over him and standing up for him. I know I know, he's a quarterback, but Cam is a big boy and can stand up for himself in those situations. Suck up the dancing and celebrating for a minute to make sure the guys who put you in the end zone are doing ok.
Quote:So what's the difference between Brett Favre running around like a chicken with his head cut off after a score, Rodgers doing the discount double check thing, and Cam Newton? Favre was lauded as having a child like enthusiasm for the game when he did that. Why can't Newton be the same? Why does Newton have to be symbolic of something that is wrong in sports?
Doesn't Brady also usually run to the endzone and do some headbutt face slap thing with his teammates?
Lets not forget
A day after and we already have two threads trying to tear Cam down even though he does what so many other players do.
Get over it. If you don't like it then don't watch.
Quote:I am an old and getting older man. I don't like Twitter, SnapCrap or social media in general. This stuff isn't for me. I'm more of the Emmit Smith hand the ball to the ref deal. But hey that is get off my lawn me.
I'm not old and I prefer that way too. I don't mind a little fun but I prefer the "Act like you have been there before." mentality.

I get that, I'm the same way. I wouldn't celebrate like that either but it also doesn't bother me that many do. It's a game and he is playing lights out and hard to stop. He reserves the right to do what he wants within the rules.
Also, the Emmit Smith reference is terrible. That same Emmit Smith used to remove his helmet after scoring TD's so everyone could see his face and he would gain more notoriety. The league changed the rule in part to stop players from doing just what Emmit Smith used to do to again "show off."

I don't really get the whole hate for Cam thing. I think the fun that he has on the field is pretty genuine. It doesn't seem forced or fake...I guess if he's beating your team it can be annoying.
Regardless of whether or not you while sitting on your couch think a NFL player needed to make a certain move/play in the course of an NFL game, it's dumb to assume he was diving in the endzone to be a showboat. I mean....come on with this stuff.
Cam is one of the more fun players to watch in the NFL. I love the way he plays.
Cam has come a long way since he entered the league, and an even longer way since his early college football playing days.
I'm sure he has heard and read all the negative things about him, especially all those things that really tore him down.
I know he is a lot higher profile person then any of us in here, but how do you think you would have felt or responded to all kinds of negative stuff being said and printed about you when you were in your early to mid 20's and trying to make it in this world, in an incredibly competitive job where everyone is watching you work/perform?
I'm sure they are a few things in his past that he would like a "do over" on, heck, don't we all have some of those?
It's a different generation now then it used to be, so either get used to it or get used to complaining about it.
Let Cam have some fun out there, after all, this is his moment, and he's not hurting anybody out there.
There are a whole lot of worse things Cam could be doing in this world then diving into the end zone in the NFCCG, trying to get to the Super Bowl,
Just remember, if he was doing it for your favorite team, you would be loving every second of it.
Quote:Cam is a egotistical entertainer, that loves to watch his own highlights. Expect no less than the dive.
he's doing exactly what the nfl wants or they'd tell him to stop

Coming from the guy who said Carolina was going to be a one and done in the playoffs. Does anyone take you seriously?
Did anybody see him ignore the ball boy after he dove over his lineman for no reason?

You are right and my positive memories are faulty. This stuff has been there in different forms.
OP doesn't mind when guys like Brady and Favre act like this
HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

You mad bro?
If you don't want him to do it stop him.

I want to respond to you in the other Newton thread but its locked and if I do here this thread will probably get locked as well so moving on to football I guess since this is a football forum. I couldn't care less about who wins this game though, don't care for either one of these teams.
