He is getting bashed by anonymous teammates as checking out. He may be in line for an incentive based contract.

The Jaguars WILL grab one of these guys. No way Dave and Gus put their employment fate in 2 pass rushers coming off ACL tears and another potential rookie DE. They will need to PAY and gamble on one of these former elite pass rushers hitting FA. Those are the cold, hard facts.

I saw that. Not a good look on him.

Mario Williams is the type of instant upgrade this team needs to have a chance next season.
I feel like he just wants to play in a 4-3 and rush the passer and the Jaguars can do just that.

I actually am not opposed to this. He's getting up there in age, but a stop gap LEO? He had a bad year, but maybe Rex and the scheme were not a fit for him. He's put up great numbers, 14.5 sacks just last year.

On a 2 to 3 year front loaded deal, while I'm not sure it happens, at the same time, with our defensive struggles, I have no problem giving it a go with Mario Williams. Also, there won't be too many better pass rushers available, most of them dont make it to free agency. This could be a great compliment to Fowler and could really boost our pass rush.

Im for it, atleast giving it a look.

If he gets cut, he's free to sign whenever he wants, isn't he?

Yes and he would not have to wait until March to sign like other free agents...
I see absolutely zero reason to not give him a 2 to 3 deal, AND PAY HIM. You front load the deal, pay him, bring him to Florida and get the best production from Mario in a scheme and atmosphere that probably suits him better.

Now that I think about it, I want this to happen. He may try and go to a contender, but if he wants a last pay day, which is probably more likely, Id really give this a good look. If he's asking to be the highest paid defensive player in the league again ( doubt it), then sure, walk away, if theres true character concerns ( doubt it), you do your due dillegence and if you come to the conclusion he's not the right fit in Jacksonville, walk away. With that being said, with the struggles of this defense which probably lost us the division, the production Mario has brough in Buffalo besides this year under Rex, Jags are not in a great position to just stick their noses up and and look to the draft.

First off, pass rushers, especially ones of Mario Williams capabilities are not easy to find. They rarely make it to Free Agency without getting the franchise tag slapped on or a new deal from their team, and if they do make it to free agency, they usually are old and out of their prime ( Chris Clemons). Mario Williams in my eyes has atleast a couple of seasons in the right scheme to be dominant. 14.5 sacks last season for him, I see no reason why at 30-31, he cant put up similar numbers in a 4-3 scheme that suits him better. If you look to the draft instead of Mario Williams, while you may find a guy, its a position that typically takes a season or two to truly develop.

My point is, Jags should take a look at this, we desperately need pass rush help, and with Fowler essentially in his rookie year this year, a true veteran presence in his prime would be just what the Jags need as a true stop gap, something Chris Clemons could not provide for the Jags.
Players on the team said he was only about himself.
Not sure if Mario is the guy we want, but an experienced pass rusher will be desperately needed. We will likely start the offseason with Fowler, Davis and Smith competing at Leo. Even if we add Vernon or a rookie that will be a very raw group.

Mario may not be the best option, but he should be able to help us for the next 2 years while we gain experience at that position.
