The whole defense is garbage.

Quote:House couldn't cover anyone for 3 seconds today, he had a bad game. Julio beat him like a drum today. We got pressure for 3 quarters, Ryan completed a lot under pressure. Matt Ryan was on his game with some great recievers. We needed BOTH a better rush in the 4th quarter and for a corner to turn around and look for the ball once in a while. Maybe a blitz once a game might help as well.....
Really? What game were you watching? House broke up multiple passes today. The PI late in the game to extend the drive to give the Falcons the 2nd field goal was total BS. And I have no idea where you saw pressure on those 3rd and long plays. The few times there was pressure no one could wrap Ryan up and he would squirt free and find an open man. The secondary needs a pass rush to be successful. No one can cover a wide receiver in today's NFL where the defense is flagged for breathing on a WR.
We need another corner and two good safeties.
I didn't see Nick Marshall get picked on a lot either, I though he did pretty well.

Pass rush will help but we still need a shut down corner. I think house will do better if he was the #2 CB and not relief to cover the best reciever every game. Move Colvin back to the nickle spot and we definitely need help in the free safety area.

If we Pick up a FS or Shut down CB in FA we can really look at getting another Leo and a LB in the 1st and 2nd of the draft or the other way around. Marks and Fowler will help our pass rush a lot but one more guy will take it to another level.
Quote:When we draft a CB in round 1. And when we draft a FS in round 2.

And then we still can't pressure the QB.....brilliant.
Quote:This is true, but we're going to get Marks and Fowler back along with some FA's and draft picks. This will surely fix our pass rush problem, and that's why I think we should take Hargreaves or Ramsey in the 1st. We need clutch play-makers in the secondary, and both of those guys are.

^^^^

This.

We're gonna have Fowler rush the QB and Marks as well.

Between the 2 I think they can put up 15 sacks combined.
A pass rush will do wonders. A free safety is a must.
But but but we got House. Julio Jones took him to school today.

What do you expect? They coaching staff left him on an island and failed to adjust on a premiere WR again. No DB in the league can contain Julio by himself. I just think back to how Jason Garrett and co. we're laughing at us for not doubling Dez last year. House is a solid CB. One of the lowest burn % and highest amount of pass breakups among all corners. The scheme is cruel to CBs and even worse so with no pass rush.
We need to get better at applying pressure with the front 4.

Blitzing should be an extra wrinkle to throw at an offense not a necessity to get pressure.

When we blitz we leave gaps in the coverage that get exploited if we don't get to the QB in a hurry. If we don't blitz we give them too much time to get open.

Until we get better with the front 4, it is pretty much a pick your poison situation for the coaches.

We need another penetrator on the interior to go along with Marks in passing situations and a better pass rusher off the edge. I was hoping Bennett would be that interior guy, but so far he hasn't looked the part. Hopefully Fowler recovers and becomes that edge guy.

If you can create some havoc with your front 4, your coverage will look 10 times better.

Bennett looked decent today I thought. He had a couple of nice stops and held his gap pretty well. He's solid depth right now at the very least.

Throw money at Josh Norman, and draft Hargreaves.

Norman, Hargreaves, House, and Colvin looks like a nice secondary.

He's been pretty nondescript all year. We need him to be that disruptive force up the middle in passing situations like he was in college.

Hopefully another offseason of work will get him going.

Speaking of "disruptive force." I don't understand why Oehser wants to constantly call Miller Pro-Bowl level. Does anyone see that? I don't think I ever hear his name called and I certainly don't see the D Line disrupting plays much.

I can see now why he may have slipped down draft boards initially, but I think he will be a key cog here 2-3 seasons down the road. He just has too much will power and talent to not be a successful NFL player. I'm still bullish on his long-term prospects.
Quote:How are we going to fix it?

Draft Vernon Hargreaves III*, CB, Florida or Jalen Ramsey*, CB/S, Florida State

If one of them aren't drafted I would be shocked its need fits BAP.

In fairness, Miller doesn't exactly play a position that is conducive to having his name called.

That said, nobody on our Dline deserves to be mentioned in the same sentence as the term pro bowl.

Miller is a big reason we stop the run so well, but he's not a dominant DT like Stroud or Henderson was. In this defense, he does his job.

We need a #1 CB and definitely a FS, but the front 7 should definitely be addressed and built up. Otherwise, it won't matter who we have in the secondary.

We blitzed almost every 3rd down and they went max protect and we couldn't get any pressure. The run D is great for the most part but the pass rush is awful. The only game I think they've done anything worth note is the Colts game and that was against a 40 year old QB and one of the worst lines in football missing it's only good player (castonzo).
I blame the scheme. I think the talent is there, but they are always caught out of place. Since we are stuck with Gus, the Jags desperately need to bring in another defensive coordinator.
