After falling out of a window, Nkemdiche could fall pretty far.... (no pun intended)
7-9 Season, forgive the typo

Quote:But there are pretty unanimous studs in the top 8 or so --Bosa, Tunsil, Stanley, Ramsey, VH3, Nlkemdiche, J. Smith. All of these have all pro potential and would fill major needs for the Jags. The Jags aren't seriously competing for anything this year, and the wins only push them farther away from such prospects. Its not about having the #1 pick.
Oh stop.

There are studs every year at the top that flop.

There are reaches toward the top, and the risk is always greater.

Stop whining about winning. You are pathetic.

BTW... Nkem might slip a bit... he was recently busted on a lil pot violation

7 or 8 wins puts us in a good position to be able to move up and down the draft boards. Trust Caldwell to make a good selection where ever we select.

You tell the players to go out there and get crippled in games they are supposed to lose on purpose. I am sure they will be receptive.

Sweet.

Add in 2 QBs like Lynch or Goff or Cook and one of those 8 will fall to us.

Win win dude.
Quote:Are the meaningless wins worth the chance at a top draft pick?

There is no such thing as a meaningless win.
there is no such thing as meanngless wins. you always want your team to win. Rather the team makes playoffs or not doesn't really matter either. You always want to end the season on a high. Look at panthers right now. they won thier final four last year, and now they are 13-0 this season.  no such thing as a meangliess win. now with all that said forget about playoffs. we need to beat falcons.

I said before season started 6-10  i stand by that 6-10 prediction still. i see us getting 1 of remaing 3,and loseing 2.

No, what's pathetic is your command of the English language. Sorry you can't have a discussion without getting butt hurt.

I was never arguing the team should purposely lose games, just trying to understand the excitement of winning meaningless games against the bottom feeders of the NFL when those wins seem to do more harm than good in the long run. There is a disconnect between the short term and long term success of the team that every fan of the NFL deals with. I'm trying to understand how this board reconciles the dilemma.

The problem with that is 7 wins likely puts you in the middle of the first round and winning the division puts your towards the end. Its not a matter of them slipping 1-2 spots, but 8-10. It seems unlikely.
Baconator, have we not discussed this same topic at length before?  And now you pretend to just want to see where this board stands?  Just go back and read the times it's been discussed.  I've seen way too many draft picks burn out into the abyss, and I've rarely seen wins not help morale and confidence.

You always mention beating the bottom feeders and how that's not exciting.  Well to me, beating the bottom feeders is a place to start.  Especially considering we are, and have been a bottom feeder for over a decade.  Starting to beat the scrubs is the first step to beating the powerhouses.  I get excited over beating bottom feeders because it means that we're improving.

Arguing about wanting a better draft spot when playoffs are still up for grabs.....

Classic.

So dumb.
We still have a shot at the playoffs and Baconator would rather lose. Haha wow.

Here is a list:

Allen Robinson

Allen Hurns

Rashad Greene

TJ Yeldon

AJ Cann

Brandon Linder

Telvin Smith

Aaron Colvin

All of these players are a part of our core, and have at least flashed considerable potential. None of them were first round picks.

We need to stop thinking about playing for draft positioning.
Of course there are meaningless wins, I cited a perfect example earlier in the thread. If the Colts had won another game, its not like the trajectory of the team was going to change for the better. Just look at last year, the Texans won their last game to elevate them to 9 wins. How has that affected the trajectory of the team this year? It seems their progress stagnated because they weren't able to inject anymore top talent to the roster. Look at the 49ers, Saints and Browns of last year. Your success doesn't 'carry over' in some magical way. The Panthers have continued their winning ways because they have a supremely talented roster, not because they 'built momentum' from the year past. You don't have to look hard to find examples on the other side of the coin--the Bucs went from 2 wins to competing for the playoffs largely due to the play from top pick Winston. Or how about the Colts when they got Luck? The answer to long term success is acquiring talent, and you best raise your chances of doing so at the top of the draft, not the middle.

The Panthers made the playoffs last year and we still able to acquire talent.

If there was such a thing as a meaningless win the team would get blown out by not trying to win.

Not to mention it's not like they were picking top 5 every year. They got Cam and then continued to get better with Luke and Kelvin.... Not from the top 5.
if you want a team that gets a high draft pick all the time go cheer for the browns!!!!!!!!!!!!! then you will be happy always loseing, and getting a high draft pick.

You can say the same thing about wanting a team that fires its GM and coaches every 2-3 years because the Jaguars will not do it.

That doesn't even make sense. What are you talking about?

But doesn't that prove my point? Their two best players, arguably the main reasons why they are so good were both taken in the top 10.

If my comment does not make sense you don't have a brain.
