I'm posting this now because I didn't get the chance to go to the game because I was feeling under the weather, which sucked because the weather was great. However, my Jaguars more than made up for it today! My thoughts...
1. I don't know what was wrong with Bortles and the offense in the first half. At times, it looked like the Clot back eight were in the Jaguars playbook, because they cut off a lot of passing lanes. Bortles had two fumbles that were infuriating, including another shotgun snap recovered for a TD. The offensive line was not protecting well. Just not a good scene. In the second half, it was a completely different offense. 42 FREAKING SECOND HALF POINTS!!!!! OUT FREAKING STANDING!!! AR15? Check! Hurns? Check. Julius Thomas-his 4th straight game with a TD? Check! Denard Robinson? Check! Bortles on the sneak? Check! This game mitigates the Patriot loss earlier in the year! This was the biggest win since 2000 when we beat Cleveland 48-0, and I'm not sure we've hit 50 since 1999. Outstanding!!!!
2. Continuing on Bortles, he has now thrown for 30 TDs and 13 INTs on the season, and he has three games remaining. Had you told any of us that Bortles would be at 30 TDs and 13 INTs for the year before the year, every single one of us would have taken it gladly. He has the potential to put up mind boggling numbers, and he's still growing and still learning.
3. I can remember when Tony Brackens was here. Brackens was constantly criticized by Jaguars fan alleging he did not give full effort, and that only worsened when the team gave him the franchise tag, and it took a long time to finally get him signed. But he was the one defensive catalyst this team had. If you look back on the early days of this franchise, if there was a defender that made the big game changing play, it was Brackens. The team never did replace him. Within this context, Iwould be remiss if I did not give credit to Andre Branch. Jaguars fans as a whole have been very critical of him, and deservedly so. He's made little impact throughout his tenure here. However, today, his forced fumble, recovery, and return of a TD absolutely changed the momentum of this game. That play looked like the manifestation of a team that was sick and tired of being sick and tired. It was a Brackensesque performance from him, as he made impact and hustle on other plays. He showed what this team, especially this year, has been missing. Good job, Branch!
4. Telvin Smith was all over the place today! Another awesome performance from him.
5. Hope T.J. Yeldon is okay. He had a good performance prior to his injury. He showed good balance and patience, and had an outstanding blitz pickup. But Denard Robinson was no slouch himself today. As a runner, he seems to hit the hole with more authority and explosion. He needs to hold onto the ball better, though.
6. Another Jekyll and Hyde performer today with Jonathan Cyprien. The last Indy scoring drive was due, in large part, to Cyprien getting faked out along the sideline, allowing what would have been a play short of the first down deep inside Clot territory to turn into a big, field flipping play. That play triggered profanity from me. However, I was thrilled to see his INT. I was rooting like heck for him to score. He needs more consistency, but that was nice.
7. Good to see Hurns bounce back from the concussion.
8. He hasn't done too much as a receiver, but man has Rashad Greene had a huge impact as a punt returner. Another great mid round pick by Caldwell!
9. One thing I am less than happy about is Myers, who missed ANOTHER extra point. I'm glad the team won in a blow out, because that miss could have haunted us, again. He did hit the 40+ yarder, which triggered the free sub, but I swear I don't know how many more misses of extra points I can take.
10. Bottom line: Some Colts fans will probably grouse and whine about us running up the score. SCREW the Colts and their fans!!! That team had some butt kickings coming, and man did this game feel good after an ugly start.
