Quote:I hope that sundae tastes like lollipops, gumdrops and rainbows, because he's earned it today. This was easily his best coaching job to date. I still don't think he's the guy to lead this team to the promised land, but he's probably already secured his job for next year, for better or worse. It's things like the play to line Bortles up and buy time that show that the man is actually capable of doing this, but might be a slow learner.

The decision to leave Bortles in around the goal line when it was 44-16 concerns me, though. Running Bortles around end then sending him over the top is a great way to get your franchise QB killed, especially given that the Colts HAD to be [BAD WORD REMOVED] about having the score run up on them. That was a decision made on emotion, and you can't do that as a coach. 44-16 with a broken Bortles would feel very different.

I too had an issue with it but I think that was a case where Bortles wanted it really bad and they were having a ton of fun at that moment. Yea, its risky but...we needed this 50 burger. The Jags owed the fans and they payed us back a little bit today.
Quote:uh, no. It takes more than one 'blow out' game to be redeemed from his kind of record.
Doesn't change the fact that it's the best game he's ever coached, and that has to count for something. I'm curious to see how he does the rest of the season.

I think it falls into the, "Ok, that was awesome, now let's never do that again," category.
Props for Bradley, even if it was a freakish one off we all enjoyed it, right?

No doubt, this was his best game here ever. Nevertheless, one win, even a blow out, doesn't undo his sordid prior history here. As you said, it'll be interesting to see where it goes from here.
just because he has been hated on SOO much by me, and others... He gets a game ball from me.. showed us what we KHAN be today.

Well done Gus!  :thanks:

Now lets make the playoffs!

It's only a redemption game if it signals a turn for the team. Jaguars win out on the season and play as well as they did in the second half today and Gus suddenly is a guy who just needed time and everyone is glad to have him back, if the Jaguars come out and put up another game like they did against the Chargers then today's game ends up meaning very little in the grand scheme.

He did his job well this week. First time I felt that to be the case, but I won't take away from it. He brought his, and his players', A-game this week.

Do it every week and I will eat a big fat slice of humble pie.

94 points in two weeks. Even if you somehow lose, Its still fun seeing your team put up that many.
Quote:The fact that Branch, Alualu, Cyp were making some plays makes me think it's a bit of a fluke...but they responded well after halftime regardless of if it was a fluke or not.  They actually attempted to apply pressure which is always a good thing.
Branch was the only anomaly.

Alualu had 1 tackle and Cyp got an int on a desperation heave when the game was already out of hand. Absolutely nothing exceptional from either one of those guys.

What the jads did was make fewer mistakes than the colts and take full advantage of the colts mistakes.
I'm not ready to jump on the "let's keep Gus" bandwagon, but credit is given when it's due. Gus coached a good game today, made half time adjustments (for once), and got creative at the goal line. The game started off real rough, but everyone settled in. Olson has definitely helped out Bortles. Although, he lives and dies by the big play, but I can live with that. Smile

Not on the Gus bus either.. but thats two weeks of prolific scoring and when encouragement and congrats is deserved, should be given.!

I'm pretty sure were all ready for some positive karma Smile

If your gonna bash him for bad coaching, give him credit when he coaches great, this game was dead in the water, awful football, and something changed

48-3 run, nobody saw that coming in the 2nd qt

And I love that he didnt take his foot off the gas

Id still not resign Branch or Alualu. Their skill level is easily replaced via draft.

If it were so easy we would already have their replacements.

You can't replace everyone every year. Just because someone is being kept around because an upgrade isn't available doesn't mean the team doesn't fully intend to sign someone else as an upgrade in the future.
Good day for him. I'd love to see it for 16 games

Considering Branch has been here 4 years and Alualu 6, opportunity definitely hasn't been the limiting factor.

Alualu's starting spot was definitely usurped, he's just utility depth at this point, and Branch they've given enough rope to hang himself. He had a great game, but unless he's turned the corner and plays good the rest of the way I can't see him as anything more than utility depth, either.
My worry is that I f Gus is fired, Olson will go too. I wouldn't want that for Blake.
