Win convincingly?
Are there college football pollsters to impress?
Seriously, I get the point. It was frustrating seeing this team almost squander this game.
But change one play (the earlier FG miss), and it doesn't come down to the last play like it did.
Whether it's by 1 point or 51 it counts as one win in the standings.
I, for one, will cherish this win.

I'm not complaining. We play in a crap division but damn it these boys scratched out a win on the road to save the season. Can't be mad about that!

There's a big difference between complaining about the ultimate outcome of a game (win or loss) and complaining about the play during said game. I doubt anyone is upset about a win and I'm excited to be within 1 game of the division lead. At the same time, I'm realistic enough to admit a win today is not necessarily proof the the team is any better than it was a week ago.

It's the NFL. There are no style points. You win however you need to win and let the chips fall where they may. Despite the misery of this season, this team is still playing meaningful games in November. That's progress. Being in an awful division certainly helps matters. If they get some momentum and put together a few more ugly wins, they could find themselves competing for the division title much sooner than anyone anticipated.

I don't mind winning ugly. I have concerns about winning while looking incompetent against a team that looks like they're throwing the game.

A win is a win. I'll take it over an ugly loss any day of the week. Wins like this can be a catalyst for more improvement. As that happens, ugly wins become solid wins. This is progress.

No, this isn't progress. A lucky win against a bad team is not progress, it's just a lucky win against a bad team. Progress is improvement, As the team improves the wins will come and they will be increasingly decisive. Until then, they will be infrequent, against weak teams and look much like todays.

Quote:...Would you still complain if this game was the Superbowl and we won on a field goal with no time left in regulation? Granted, there were some ugly plays out there today, but a win is a win. The Jags won the turnover battle- and made plays when they needed to. The Ravens shot themselves in the foot with penalties, and that facemask on the second to last play by Dumervil defies belief. At the end of the day, we're 3-6, and are still in the race for the AFC South title; that's all that matters.
On a side note, the Jaguars got their first win in Baltimore since 1999-handing Joe Flacco only his 3rd home loss in the month of November.
A win is a win, as long as they arent cheating I'm fine with it!

I don't have a problem with the win, I just don't want it to save Gus.

The pats just won pretty ugly tonight. Collins had an easy pick on Brady the final drive, but dropped it when he fell down. A win is a win.

The way the schedule is playing out, we have a chance to go on something of a run if we play well.
The next three games are Tennessee (2-7) here on a short week, SD here after a long trip from the west coast (2-6) and at Tennessee (2-7).
In terms of an immediate return, best case scenario, if the team wins those three games, we end up 6-6 with four games left. The team would be right in the thick of the playoff hunt by then and n some level, excitement will have returned to the area in December.
The 6 wins will be Bradley's best season by two full games.
If the Jaguars miss the playoffs after that, would that be enough to warrant canning Gus?
Is your answer in any way influenced by the caliber of potential coaches available (Peyton, Marrone, Saban)?

Just about every penalty called on the Ravens, up to and including that last face mask call, were legit penalties.
I just wish we were team enough to put the game away before then, but that is coming, I think.

Many of the people complaining about the quality of the win are the same people who were insisting that the final result was all that matters when the team played better than this and still lost.
Many people on the other side of this argument were on the other side of that one as well.
Go figure.

My expectation at the start of the season was 6 wins. If we can get to 6 wins, I see no reason why Gus should be let go, because to me, that's progress in the win column. And this is coming from someone who is not a believer in Gus. To have a successful defense with this scheme, you need to pour resources (draft picks) into it, and Caldwell's focus has been on the offensive side of the ball. The offense is full of potential, and really only a couple more linemen away from being dangerous. The defense lacks talent and depth all over, and especially along the front 4. One draft class won't fix it and make it top ten, but I do think Gus is a good enough defensive coach to coach up a young, talented defense. Our defense lacks talent. Marks, Telvin, maybe House and maybe Colvin are building blocks. Everyone else is replaceable.

Quote:Fifth quarter radio said only four times in NFL history has an end of game personal foul allowed a team to win on an untimed final play and the Jags are one of them .
I'd rather have an ugly win that a pretty loss.
So we are part of NFL history with Sunday's Win.
We exercised that 13 game road loss record with an Exorcist style head turning around face mask penalty.
Who knew it would take a miracle face mask penalty to end that road losing streak?

If the 48 yard field goal attempt against the Colts had been successful, the avalanche of negative comments that were posted afterwards would not have taken place. Instead, those posters would have said " a win is a win ".
If yesterday's facemask penalty had not happened and we lost the game, there would have been an avalanche of negative comments from the exact same people who today are saying " a win is a win ".
Here's my point;
We should all be thankful for a win. Wins have been few and far between in this town. But, just as we have been told by coaches and players to acknowledge the positives in those games that we lost, the rational position is to recognize and address the negatives when we win. Neither team should be satisfied with their performance yesterday.

The jags didn't deserve that win yesterday, but like many have said, I'll take an ugly win over a pretty loss or moral victory any day. If we keep winning ugly, I won't care. The team is showing the heart to stay in games (minus the Patriots game), and that's what you want to see. Winning ugly still will develop a winning mentality and culture.
