Quote:lol ... Mom, is that you? You going to try and wash out my mouth with soap?

Actually, you sort of made my point. Cuba Gooding played this man in a movie! Vote for him for president!

I don't know why you've taken this as your mission, but support whomever you want. Many of us are saying that we don't know much about the guy (other than he says some really goofy things) and that there may be more to the image than that we've been given. Imagine that.

I didn't say that because I heard about him in a movie that you should vote for him, what i said very clearly is that his tangible verifiable accomplishments and contributions to this society and the scientific community are so overwhelming and so blatantly exceptional that they had to be canonized in biographies and film.

I can tell that you probably DONT know all that much about Ben Carson, in a sane world that would mean that it would motivate you to want to learn more.  When you blindly insult and reduce someone so accomplished it speaks to how small and biased you are as a person.

If someone wants to criticize any candidate on policy then that's fine.  If someone wants to criticize someone based on a proven lie or demonstrable lack of character then i can understand that, but  insulting blindly on the back of this legalistic innuendo is asinine and i will call it out as such.
Quote:Did he receive a "full scholarship offer to West Point"? That is in his book.

He was told by Westmoreland that he would get him in because he was brilliant, a highly regarded ROTC leader, an probably a little because of his race. Yes, that is the equivilant to a full scholarship offer to West Point.

No, it isn't

No, it's more like someone telling me that if I tried out for the Gator football team, I would probably make it, and then me writing in my autobiography that I was offered a full athletic scholarship to UF.   It straddles the line between puffing up the facts and pure lying.
I read his book years ago (as part of a book club), before knowing anything about his politics.  All I kept thinking the entire time I read it was, "this guy has a really really high opinion of himself."  I remember some the stories that are being referenced, like the latest one by the Wall Street Journal about the story of his ethics class in college.  The worst part about Carson running is that I am being forced to remember his horrible book.

Ben Carson's house: a homage to himself

Come on dude.  Now you are stretching it really far.  He has accomplished A LOT, you can't fault a guy for posting awards and pictures of himself with celebrities.  Is it the holy shrine he has that is bothering you?
Black conservatism is hard boy.

Can you at least admit this is weird?

more bad analogies.

It would be like a kid who is a five star football recruit and a five star track athlete.  Oregon ( a dominant track power) while scouting the area runs into the kid at the track awards banquet.  The head track coach tells the kid that if he ever wanted to pursue track first that they would have a place for him in eugene.  The Kid then politely says that he is going to Florida to play football.

The implication that you make is that there was still some question about whether or not Carson would have qualified should he have pursued west point.  That is not the case.  He was the top ROTC officer in his area, had great academics, and oh yeh was a minority.  Any insinuation that there would have been doubt about his admission to the school given a special/presidential recommendation is backward to the point of absurdity.

The second implication that you make is that Carson somehow had some blemish on his academic record that he was trying to hide.  The guy received a scholarship to yale.  That's not something that you have to hide about your past.

This garbage about needing street cred for a rags to riches story is even more cow fodder.  The man came from a poor family background and became one of the most world renowned surgeons this country has ever seen and the youngest head of that specialty at Johns Hopkins one of the most prestigious institutions in the world performing surgeries that defy imagination, let alone previous scientific understanding of how the body can be repaired.  This insinuation that there was some dire need to conjure up stories in the face of what is patently remarkable is silly distopian hatred of anything that doesn't fit the PC narrative of black folks having to wait in line for the government to solve their problems for them.  It makes me sick and any time i see this kind of garbage spewed you can rest assured that there will be a swift and detailed response.

Not really unless we know the back story. Did Carson commission this work? A gift from a relative or patient perhaps? I've been in several houses where the family had a "Jesus got my back" type picture on the wall, not to mention the decorating my older Catholic relatives do. The only reason to assume this is "weird" is if you don't understand it.

Klingon Jesus? Kind of strange, but not really discrediting. More funny if anything.

I thought maybe it was some kind of Taekwondo Nicholas Cage.

Well..I would not have this type of photo in my house.  if someone gave it to me as a gift, I'd probably store it somewhere, not put it up on my stairs.  To each your own.

If that was a photo, I would definitely hang it in a prominent place where everyone could see it.

Just stop.  I have no idea if it's a painting or not.  It could be printed.

If momma gave it to you that might be exactly what you did.
