Quote:So you guys are saying Marty is going to come to Jax, and play super hard at a pro bowl level for five years? We can't get young guys to pan out for us, let alone a 30 year old coming off of a Super Bowl win.
who said 5 years?
Why would he want to play here? His personality doesn't fit us. He will throw Blake under the bus very fast
You can't not sign good players because you're going to assume they are going to take our money and go on vacation.  If that was the case then we better never sign ANY free agents because they are all getting big contracts and any one of them could take the money and get fat and lazy.  These players are ultra competitive, and you have to assume that your going to get the same effort level that they've been putting out throughout their entire career.

It's just him that has this written all over him. It's so easy to see.

He won't sign anywhere under 3 years. If he is, then he'll be getting all of his money in the first couple years. Not a good business decision by the FO if it's less than 4.
This would be the worst FA move Caldwell has ever made, and that even includes Slowby.
People seem to really hate the idea of adding a TE that averaged roughly 65 catches, 700 yards, and 5 TDs over the last five seasons.

Im not supporting a Martellus signing but him saying he wants to cash out doesnt mean he isnt going to try. He earned the right to a nice check and hes being honest about it instead of giving us more pre packaged jargon that everyone else always does. But it doesnt mean vacation inherently.
I'd rather take a chance with Jermaine Gresham. He's younger, faster, less issues, doesnt have the injury bug either. He isn't ever going to be elite but I think he could catch 40-50 balls a year for us.

Good example of this would be the crown jewel of our free agent class last season, Malik Jackson.

I'd be shocked if he played hard 5 downs.

He's done it all already, his career is accomplished.  Only a paid vacation could top it off.
I'll take "guys who excelled with HOF QB" for 200 Alex.

Didn't we learn anything from JT guys?

Or...draft a TE in one of the deepest TE classes on the books.

He was never a cancer and was a star on denvers line, he's also young.
As long as Bortles is throwing it won't matter if we sign Gronk.

Just look how hard JT fell off.

I'm just saying that both Malik and Martellus made it clear that they were going to sign with whichever team offered them the biggest deal and that doesn't always mean the player is going to mail it in afterwards.

Or do both. I don't think Bennett is going to get silly money (relative to the silly money that free agency automatically brings) that would hamstring the team in the future. Go into camp with Bennett and a draft pick guaranteed roster spots and whittle Lewis/Koyack/Sterling/Ellis/UDFA TE down to two.
I can definitely see him being one of those bums who come here then mail it in. Not saying we shouldn't sign it, just that I wouldn't get my hopes up on him being a huge contributor if we did.

Interestingly, he added: "But, it's like, what is your motives right now? Is it championships or is it the place where you can build your legacy to do things after football? It's like this is the brand I want to build. Is this where I want to be in four years? Can I do that in Jacksonville? Probably not."

Um, can we talk about this for a sec?
