So i'm totally sure you guys haven't heard this and have no idea that we lead the NFL in cap space weighing in at $33,857,999 mil. So I thought we'd blow it this year when we originally signed Julius, I was thinking "we are gonna go buck wild." Turns out we didnt.. so i'm wondering, what exactly are we waiting for? When we gonna make it rain? Think it's best to start spending money next year after another hopefully grade A draft?
We spent this year. We'll spend next year. We'll never spend like Dan Snyder so some people will make threads asking when we're going to spend like they don't know that we do.
Who do you think we could bring in next year?

Gibson the FS has to be a priority.
Hilton is a possibility..offense would be ridiculous then
Bruce Irvin

If you're referring to TY, he signed a big contract with the Colts already.

I'm not saying we didn't spend money. We had some solid signings, but we still got so much money to work with. I won't pretend to be well versed in the subject. Maybe the right talent wasn't available, I dunno. Just seems like we could tempt two or three studs into coming on down with the kind of money we're working with.

Yeah i just looked that up, bummer. If Lee were to ever get healthy we would be set at WR for a decade but if not we still need a speed guy.

Beadles
Gerhart
Odrick
House
Brown
Maybe its best we don't let Dave touch our cap space?
Still have hopes for Julius at least.

With the exception of Beadles those guys are small fish though.

Uh..
Beadles - 5 year, 30 mil, 13 Guaranteed
Gerhart - 3 year, 10.5M, 5M guaranteed (most money spent on RB that fa period)
Odrick - 5 years, 42 M, 22.5M guaranteed
House - 4 years, 24M, 10M guaranteed
Those guys, along with the Thomas signing were considered his "big" signings given that they happened in the first week of free-agency. And when you sign someone on the first week, you're typically spending big money on them.
House is pretty good, though. Odrick isn't worth the money, but FA is an overpay game and I'm not too upset about it, I think he's pretty good in his role. Beadles and Gerhart aren't good, ugh. I can understand though. Beadles was a former lineman who looked good in Denver and Gerhart looked good in limited duty in Minnesota. Signings like Parnell, Hurns, and his draft picks have me encouraged

Parnell
Marks
Skuta

Walters
Wisnewski
Thomas
Sure he's had some misses but he had also made some nice signings.
Thomas, Parnell, Skuta, House, although overpaid Odrick have seemed to be pretty decent signings. Only real busts I see are Gerhart and Beadles. Also Brown was cheap enough I don't have a problem with it
Beadles and Gerhart's contracts were written the way they are for a reason.
I'm 91% sure Caldwell did not intend for those two (and a few other FA's) to see the end of their contracts here.
We needed some guys and he got us some guys. As we get better guys, the previous mediocre guys will be re-evaluated.

Gerhart also was guaranteed only $5 million, so it's not like he made him the highest paid RB or anything like that. It was a gamble that didn't work out, but it's no major loss.
It's Tuesday and Gerhart is still on the roster....why

Forgot about Parnell. He's actually a pretty good signing. Marks, Skuta, Walters has been good signings, but those were smaller deals. The thread is talking about blowing cap space to sign big free agents (even though the OP, mistakenly, didn't think Odrick was a big signing). So those were the main ones I was focusing on, though I put in Brown instead of Parnell.
In fact, I'd argue that Dave has done better with his bargain FAs than with his higher priced FA.
Leave room for potential signings (draft & free agency) but they have to get away from over paying backups to come here to start... not a good business move... you dont want to spend for the sake of spending..

Perhaps. Caldwell has not been perfect but it's not an exact science and I think he's done pretty well.
