Quote:The Jags would have love to sign JPP and pay him over 14 mil per year. I see Campbell getting 12 mil and he is a perfect complement to Jackson. Jones and Day would functionall back them up.
JPP would play end. Campbell is a 3-4 end, not a 4-3 end.  He'd likely play 3 tech DT in a 4-3. (Like he did quite a bit in 2014)

You don't pay Jackson 90 million to start at 3 tech and then sign another 3 tech to a mega-deal to have him play 25-30 snaps a game.

Especially when you have Marks sitting there for 4.5 million who played very well  the year prior in those limited snaps.

Quote:I wonder about that.

We're not going to keep the Gus Bradley scheme on defense. Is there a reason why a team couldn't play two 3Ts at the same time instead of a 3T and a 1T? Neither Stroud nor Henderson was a 1T. Why not use Marks and Jackson together. A LB group of Telvin, Jack, and Poz could certainly cover up for any failure in run defense caused by using two pass rushing DTs.
They already play two 3 techs on 3rd downs pretty often, but I don't see Wash going away from having a true NT on most base downs.

Jones/Miller are a nice duo there if Miller comes back from the injury.

Marks and Jackson looked quite good on 3rd downs together in the middle last year.  Campbell may be an upgrade to Marks there, but at what price and for how many snaps?  I don't see the value in signing Campbell that I see from letting Marks finish his reasonable contract.
Quote:Marks is one of the worst run defenders at the position and has been for 6 or 7 years.
Did you watch Jaguars football games in 2016?

Marks played very well against the run. The tackles for loss or no gain were actually impressive.

Quote:Which one is worth quite a bit more than 4 million ?
Marks.
Quote:And what would you do with Hightower if you got him?

Play him at the SAM and leave Jack the odd man out?

Move Jack to MIKE, get rid of Poz?

Sign Hightower as a backup and just give him a lot of money for the heck of it?

Hightower's only fit here would be SAM imo, because he isn't a WILL and he's nothing more than a 2 down MLB.

At the SAM, you'd then be signing a guy for a lot of money, only to play 20-30% of the defensive snaps.
Yep, Jack to Mike, drop Poz, he is slow and old
Quote:"EDGE" is not a position.

We need a RDE or LDE.
RDE
Quote:Yep, Jack to Mike, drop Poz, he is slow and old
Would still have to pay him what you'd assume would be a high amount of $$. Just for him to see around 30% of the total defensive snaps at SAM.

Now of course that's depending on how much they'll tweak the scheme. They said they'll be some changes to the scheme. We'll just have to wait and see how much though.

Personally, I think Hightower should take a little bit less than market value and stay with the Pats. It's his best fit because they can hide some of the things he can't do real well.

Ok, so you make some sense. I will drop my wish for Campbell and keep Marks and Miller.

Do you agree that we have to get a REALLY good RG and a REALLY good CB in free agency and instead of chasing Campbell at least try to sign Ricky Wagner to replace Parnell at RT ?

I am absolutely all for signing the best guard free agency will allow us to sign (I like Zeitler) and paying the premium cost to do so.

Whether he ends up starting on the right or left will work itself out.

I'd like to se them try to land Bouye or Gilmore at CB also. (Though I think a good corner could be found with our second pick in the draft also.)

Wagner would be an upgrade to Parnell, and though I think Parnell gets an unfairly bad rap, I would definitely like that move.

I agree with you 100% on all of this !
How do you feel about paying 1.75 mil or so for one of the top three Fullbacks ?
I don't understand the Calais Cambell love, for us he would be a DT and Malik/Jones are starting and we have some really good backups in Marks/Miller/Day. Is he good? Yes Do we need him? No
Free agents:

1. Zeitler- Best guard on the market.

2. Bouye- Also weakens division opponent.

3. Jefferson- Upgrade in pass coverage from Cyprien.

Draft:

1. Fournette- Very tough choice over Allen, but offense needs more help.

2. Lamp/Feeney- Prefer Lamp since he can play guard or tackle, but Feeney will be solid addition also.

3. Tanoh Kpassagnon- Big upside, but may need time to develop.

4. Hodges/Leggett- Solid move tight ends gives Blake another weapon. Keep Lewis 1 more year for blocking ability.

I would like them to sign a FA fullback and sign an UDFA rookie FB and let them compete.  (Maybe Stevenson in the 7th round instead of an UDFA)

1.75 mil is no sweat.

So if we get these three in free agency. In the draft let's say Myles Garrett is gone by our pick at 4. Would Jonathan Allen fit us well or are his skills redundant ?

I don't see many holes in his game. He's pretty complete.

Ok, I will go with that opinion.

Agreed.

It's a very different situation because of his age and his rookie contract value, but Allen would have to be viewed as a true BAP type pick if you are going to use him strictly on the inside in Jacksonville.

Allen's versatility and skill set however would allow the Jags to play him on the strong end as well as inside - eliminating much of that redundancy.

If they take Allen they've now  got a Michael Bennett type player sliding into Odrick/Alualu's former roles.
I gotta be honest, I don't think this teams gonna win squat if the QB situation stays status quo. Looking at our free agent history, none of these guys are gonna make or break us in 2017, which is a shame considering were basically gonna be forced into overspending for these shlubs that we cut or trade in 3-4 years.

Thus team sucks at drafting, and until that changes, the team is gonna suck. Make no bones about it, we've blown 75% of our recent draft picks, and rebuilding time is here once again whether we like it or not. I hope the FO (Tom) agrees.
