Will be interesting to see what they do that's for sure. Hope it's not Gilmore. Dude is severely overrated.
Quote:I gotta be honest, I don't think this teams gonna win squat if the QB situation stays status quo. Looking at our free agent history, none of these guys are gonna make or break us in 2017, which is a shame considering were basically gonna be forced into overspending for these shlubs that we cut or trade in 3-4 years.

Thus team sucks at drafting, and until that changes, the team is gonna suck. Make no bones about it, we've blown 75% of our recent draft picks, and rebuilding time is here once again whether we like it or not. I hope the FO (Tom) agrees.

The qb staying status quo so come to grips with it and hope for the best.

I am hoping we can pick up Bouye. Not certain but I believe he and Bortles were together at UCF for a couple of years.
Quote:I would sign the best guard in free agency: Kevin Zeitler, if not resign Beachum and move Albert to guard. Sign Logan Ryan for CB or Stephon Gilmore because AJ Bouye will be hard to sign in my opinion. Sign Donta Hightower to play SAM and kick Jack inside. Cut Poz, Roy Miller, Davon House, Skuta, and Lewis. Make a possible run at Michael Bennett TE? Keep Lewis, he is a good veteran. Draft Jonathan Allen or Solomon Thomas. If we were to find a good pass rusher in free agency then I would draft Leonard Fournette.

Wait I'm confused. Are we cutting or keeping Lewis?
Quote:Why cut any of those guys (besides House?)  There  is absolutely no monetary reason to part with any of them and they all can contribute even as back-ups or rotation.
Not only that, it would make us dangerously thin at DT.

True that. I could see though maybe Sheldon Day taking over as the primary back up behind Malik and Marks become very frustrated near the end of preseason that could be an issue. Though like how most have said, right now it makes no sense to cut either at DT.

In the OP's defense - he did suggest adding Calais Campbell - who could play Marks' role.

Clearly though - Marks makes more sense playing behind Jackson from a value perspective.

If Miller recovers from injury, the combo of Miller, Marks and Day as rotational guys in the interior D-line is a really nice group.  There are no huge contracts and none are required to play a high number of snaps unless someone else is banged up.

Thanks for the advice brother, but I'm only stating the obvi. The people crazy enough to stick around have already come to grips with the bad things that continue to happen to this here hobby of ours, and most of us don't like being preached to about acceptance, because apathy has already set in years ago now. I'll watch either way, but I have a decent idea of what we're gonna get if your boy doesn't remove his head from his posterior in 2017, regardless of any free agents or draft picks we sign.

And I know the quarterback depth chart will remain the same at the top. What I meant, was the team is screwed if the quarterback PLAY remains status quo. He's been terrible.
He is frustrating to watch; in one quarter alone he flip flops. One thing is certain, you never know what you are going to get. Well, sans an int or the customary p6 every few weeks.

But he is our LeBortleau, and we are the deplorable Jags. Bring on the FAs,and a viable option at backup QB...

Henne is merely a phantom presence

I can't wait to see what Tom does at that position by camp. The most critical area by far.

Ducks before the Mrs. comes in
Reading this makes me wanna play Madden again..
Quote:Sign ( overpay ) Kevin Zeitler, AJ Buoye & Calais Campbell in Free Agency.

Cut Mercedes Lewis, SenDerrick Marks, Roy Miller, Davon House & Dan Skuta.

Extend Telvin Smith, Brandon Linder & Allen Robinson.

This sets up a favorable draft scenario ;

Edge

OG / OT

TE

CB

QB

RB

How would you change it ?
House cut, Marks is next then Skuta

I thought you were crazy wanting to move on from Marks, but clearly the team is in fact trying to deal him. So you aren't as crazy as I thoughtSmile

That could also put Campbell in play in FA as you also suggested.

I still think cutting him (as opposed to trading him) would be a very unwise move.  We'll see how that pans out.

Sen'Derrick Marks and Davon House now cut. Expect same for Dan Skuta, Mercedes Lewis and Roy Miller next.

AJ Bouye and Calais Campbell signing soon. We should still sign RG TJ Lang but it could easily fixed in round 2 or 3 of draft.

Really liked the Barry Church signing because it takes the pressure off in the draft.

I don't see Lewis, or Miller being cut.

Lewis is still the best blocking TE we have and Miller's salary for next season isn't that big. I think they'll keep him behind Jones and slowly work him back into things as the season goes along.

Mercedes Lewis is paid over 3 mil and is over the hill and there were at least two better/younger blocking TE's that the Jags tried to sign today and just missed. If at all possible, he WILL be replaced.

As to Roy Miller, it is possible he can recover and could be kept if they can't find something better in free agency for less than 4 mil or in the draft in rounds 4-7.
Draft 4 O-Linemen and hope 2 end up being starters long-term.  Draft a QB mid-round and do that ever year until we find a franchise top 10 QB.  Then just draft BAP for the other 2 draft spots.
