Football is an 11 man game, and everyone has to do their part correctly, or everyone looks bad.   I have seen plenty of plays where Odrick does his job, but someone nearby is out of position, or takes the wrong gap, or some other mental error.   So to me, trying to blame a player for underperforming is off base, what is really happening out there is guys are making mental error after mental error.   Taking the wrong gap on defense, making a key penalty, blocking the wrong guy, and on and on and on as it has been for 3 years.    This isn't Odrick's fault.   It's the coaching staff.   They have failed to coach the mistakes out of these guys.   Well coached teams don't make so many mistakes.

What I'm saying is, I think a lot of people are focusing on the wrong problem.   It isn't this guy, or that guy, it's the whole team.  Every play someone makes a key mistake.   If you want to blame someone, blame the coaches.

I blame the lack of defensive talent...

Among starters you have Odrick, Poz, Telvin, House and Colvin and Sergio. The other starters at least so far have basically stunk. Skuta has done ok in parts, but he's still not that perfect OTTO in every aspect. The backup CBs are also good, but they're always out there. With Sen'Derrick back we should have one more key starter, and next year we'll have Fowler at LEO making for another. But until we can say we have 11 good starters out there, there's going to be a weakness that allows good offenses to take advantage.

Hopefully this offseason we can find a better DT. Losing TK for Roy Miller has seriously hurt this team. And Cyp sucks at least so far. Maybe it's the cast, etc, but he's not this superstar the on tape that the coaches keep saying he is in practice. Telvin and Poz can also improve in coverage, and the LEO position simply is what it is. I'm banking that Fowler is a stud LEO next year.

It's called sarcasm. Sure he needs to play better. Everyone does. I was just pointing out that he's the current scapegoat. He'll have another good game and then people will be on someone else again. Just like if LJ allows a sack today there will be a new thread saying he's garbage.

Pointing out someone who hasn't performed up to their contract isn't making him a scapegoat. It's pointing out that one of the problems with the defense is a guy we targeted and spent good money hasn't been living up to he role we brought him in to fill consistently at all.

No one has said he is the only problem, but not adequately filling your role on the defense most definitely is a problem. It's one of the problems that keeps the defense from being able to get off the field in crucial situations.

HE EARNED HIS CHECK WITH THE HELMET SMASH!!!

Blah,blah, blah
How are we feeling about Odrick now?

I think he's been strong against the run all season, but (perhaps because we're throwing more bodies into our blitzing) he's becoming more of a threat to the opposition QB too.

Without anyone really noticing, I think he's become a very good signing.

He has definitely gotten more consistent as the season has progressed. It looks like he is startint to settle into his role.
