They lucked out with Hasselbeck starting, and got the ball five different times in the final eight minutes of regulation and overtime. A score on any of those drives would have likely won the game. They failed due to two missed field goals, shaky blitz recognition and uncharacteristically timid play-calling. They didn't score after halftime. If they can't win this particular game in Indianapolis, when could they? -NFL.com

I guess I am simply upset as to how this season has gone so far, but I'll get over it with a huge win over the Bucs.

FBT, would it not be better to find out if another coach can get more out of this roster? If he can't, you can then have a better feel for the strength of the roster, and make a decision on dave caldwell.
I think that may very well be the reason caldwell retains gus through the season. Ensures another year for him. On the downside, that could mean that caldwell's new hire is stuck in now mans land the following year should shad axe dave. That would leave us with another mularkey situation.

So you see, Marrone taking over now would be preferable, because the alternative could very well lead to another mularkey scenario with a lame duck coach after 2016. Then you'd have a hard time hiring a new coach under a new regime because the owner will have fired 2 one and done coaches in his short tenure
When do you decide that the product has failed to produce a quality service as the owner, Shahid Khan might have to do this year?

I am drinking the teal koolaid tonight, and I'm going to stay positive. I think the win against the Bucs this week will make a lot of us (fans) happy, along with an easy win against the Texans.

3-3 will be a nice play to be with a healthy DT Marks & TE Thomas back and playing...

DON'T ever consider any game an easy win for us. We haven't earned the right to do that
Good point. Its not like its Tom Brady's Patriots... Pretty safe to say that they can do that against the Bucs.

Zinger of the year, you've cut me deep.
Quote:Considering how void this team has been of talent in the past couple of drafts, BAP and need are pretty much the same thing.

Regarding any potential Caldwell departure, it's not going to happen, and if it did, Polian would be on the same list for consideration as Gene Smith.
a depressing yet true statement...

Fowler was a pretty good bet... at the time. Now however, he might end up being a bust.

long time reader?
Caldwell is fine. I can see the talent he's brought in. His biggest issue is that the Jaguars haven't drafted any playmakers, but the offense on paper looks the best since 2010.

That statement should be an indictment on Caldwell, not a compliment.

Looks like criticism to me.

And while he hasn't drafted any, he has certainly made reasonable attempts to bring them in via other means with Marks and Thomas (and the numerous other players he tried to bring in that simply used Jacksonville as leverage to go to another team)
So it seems like the question is, 'what has to take place before Gus is fired?' Is there a certain number of losses, or is it the fans turning on him, or perhaps the perception of lack of development from key players? I wonder if there is such a criteria that either Dave or Shad regards as the 'bottom line'?

I don't care for Gus's cheerleader style. There have been a few glitches in his use of challenges and time outs, but he was hired as a rookie HC, so that is to be expected. He was saddled with a very high percentage of rookies and no coach is going to look good right away under those circumstances. We all knew (or should've known) that it would take at least several years to get a team of essentially rookies up to speed.

My point is this; of the people who were available at the time we needed a new HC it was regarded that Gus was the best option we had. There's no way any of us (including Dave Caldwell) can know the future and how things are going to turn out. Sometimes things work out... sometimes they don't. So what then is the final, fate sealing, criteria for dismissing Gus, if such a thing exists?

My statement about Fowler is true; don't dismiss it just because you may not like it. Given his injury, we don't really know now what he's going to be like once he starts playing again. Hopefully, he comes back as good as he ever was... but that's asking a lot; and remember his selection was based on his college performance so we never did get a chance to see what he would do in the NFL... other than get hurt right away.

You sure post a lot for somebody that wasn't going to post anymore.

And you sure seem to be obsessed with making snarky comments instead of actually contributing anything of value to this board.
Can we also talk about how this team wasnt able to beat a 40 year old quarterback WHO HAD THE FLU

He didn't beat us, we beat us. He led one TD drive and the only reason the drive was sustained is because of what, 5 penalties? In all honesty, we shut him down but weren't able to score on their D. And we missed two FGs. Tired of hearing this crap.

How would you know about contributing anything of value?
