Quote:I don't put much stock into Yeldon's place because he's getting the most opportunity by far, but Hurns' and Robinson's are legit. They have the most yards, Hurns is only behind Beckham for most receptions and only by two, Hurns has the most first down conversions, they're converting first down more than any of the other receivers by far that have as many receptions as them, beating the closest competitors by almost 20 percentage points each, and they're easily leading in yards per catch as well. If the duo of Hurns and Robinson were on one of the New York teams, Green Bay, New England, etc., they'd be getting hyped up as the next great wide receiver combo and how historic their pairing is lol. It's really a great break that we got Hurns because he offsets the fact Lee has pretty much one foot in the bust bus.
They are 12th and 15th respectively in terms of yards vs. the entire NFL. I think those calling for the need for a "true #1" need to realize, we may have 2! ARob leads the entire NFL in YPC. It's crazy this offense can't score points.
Also Bortles is second in the league in total yards from deep passes at 404. His 11 completions on those passes leads the league. Bortles is really good at the play action deep pass. He should have had 80 more if not for Robinson trying to high point the ball instead of running through the catch.
Well, realistically, there is more opportunity given to young players on a team going through a true full rebuild like the Jaguars than there is on most other teams in the league. But it's still good to see them showing up on the stat sheet and it could obviously be a lot worse.
So far, this season is going about how I expected it with the exception being the Patriots game. I expected a better showing than what we got, but considering that the Pats are probably shooting for 16-0 again in the face of the offseason scandal and scrutiny I guess it's not all that surprising in retrospect.
The loss against the clots hurts because we did enough to win and should be in the driver's seat for the division right now, but we aren't. That being said, I expected this year to be more competitive and for this young team to get better as the season rolls along. The first quarter of the season is no surprise to me. I do expect this young team to get better before our eyes as we move forward though. We'll probably win a game or two we aren't supposed to and probably lose one or two more that we should have won, but I think we'll be markedly better by season's end.
After last week, we NEED to win this game this weekend against the Bucs. Gus Bradley NEEDS this team to win this game this weekend.

It's the red zone. Its more horrible play calling in the red zone than execution.
Silver Lining...
Lee is just hurt and not out due to substance violations.

silver linings playbook.... Haha. What a horrible movie. That trailer made it seem it was more about football than it was.

I liked it... I'm weird like that.
I wonder if Gus keeps a journal like that.

I wonder if he runs in trash bags! Lol!
Quote:I'm pretty joyful, actually. I like our offense alot.
Burns is the man. AR15 is a stud. Yeldon looks legit
Our o line is solid.
And bb5 looks like he's the answer. A lot to be happy about
Linder out for the year, plus Joeckel is still playing, I'm not sure what is "solid" about our o line. First pick in the draft next year will either be an O Lineman or a CB. It's abysmal running a talent like Yeldon into nothing but crap play after play hoping he takes over and does something on his own.
You can't argue that the pass protection is better this year. That doesn't mean it's good or solid though but it's improving.

Yea. That one bomb he caught would have been an easy TD if he runs under it instead of stopping and jumping for it. This is the kind of minutia that is the difference between a young up-and-comer and a savvy vet.
Wouldnt it be nice if Lee could stay healthy?
They will all be hurt in a few games.
Quote:We have a QB on pace for 4000 yards, two receivers on pace for >1200 yards and a running back on pace for 1000 yards. Also, all those players are either rookies (Yeldon) or in their second year (Bortles, Hurns, Robinson).
But we're also 31st in scoring and if you remove the garbage time point from the Pats game we have scored a whooping 3 points after the game. That's 6.5 quarters of football and 3 measly points.
Probably because when we line up with other teams, there's no filter box that we can check that says "Rookie year" or "Second Year" only
The jags covered the spread.

So how are we averaging 15 points per game

Thank you... Look, it's OK to be critical of this team and the direction it has been going since the rebuild. But I've been railing against this since the beginning of the season when people were lamenting not getting a veteran WR. These guys are good and they are already demonstrating professionalism. They both have been getting better with each game. There's only so much a WR can do... When you have a coa..... Nope, I'm not turning this into a Gus sucks thread... These guys are good. They will maintain it... As time goes on, we're gonna love these two tandems... It's just a matter of time... Maybe a year or 2... But they are legit.
Are they megatron? No, but who is? Are they Dez? Maybe... You guys gotta remember, Dez was a dumpster fire for his first 3 years... Seriously, does anyone remember that monday night game with Dez where he just quit on a route for a pick six against the giants? That was like his second year... These guys are gonna be good. They need someone to push harder, but they are good! I'd take these two over most other WR tandems in the league...

Agreed! We need more PA passing plays... Especially since we are being sniffed out for running when the D stacks the box, PA pass more!!! Gus will (hopefully) realize that and let slip the hounds of war.
Quote:It's the red zone. Its more horrible play calling in the red zone than execution.
Let's not turn this into another Gus sucks forum... This is about positives. Here's one.... We rarely sniffed the opponents 30 yard line in previous years... We're getting into the red zone consistantly now... In the first half...

I know Joeckel is the whipping boy du jour... But he's not a liability. Matter of fact, the Pass Protection is not a liability at all this year. Yes, there are hurries and rushes... But BB5 is getting time. That's why AR and Burns are getting such good YPC...
I think the run blocking leaves something to be desired... But that will also come. You mention LInder being out for the season. That I think is also a positive, because I thought the O-Line did well in his absense against the clots...
Quote:So how are we averaging 15 points per game
Take this to any number of Gus sucks threads. This thread is about the positives...
(PS Gus sucks. But this ain't the thread to discuss that. This is about what is going well. Which, if you haven't realized, there is alot to be "joyful" for...)
I was watching the game against the Colts on the DVR and I saw us wasting time around the redzone going from 50 to 25 seconds before halftime when we had 2 timeouts remaining. What was the Coaches thinking and why didn't Blake just call a timeout for them to give yourself more time to think of the right play to score 7 instead of 3 which is another stupid non thought that help cost us the game. Yes from what I saw we are getting better but the players need to think a little for themselves and not waste time and timeouts before halftime.
