You mean more insane. At least 40 time matters for WRs.

Once again I said there are several other things that I would prioritize higher when making a decision, but if you aren't even going to look at the 40 at all, it's pretty naive.
Quote:Again, I am not trying to say it's even close to the most important, but it's a factor.

If you have 2 players rated similarly, but one runs a 5.2 second 40 and one runs a 4.65 40, as long as there are no random concerns and everything else is apples to apples, I'd take the guy with the faster 40.

Quote:That's my number 1. How does a player look on film. You can get an idea of everything about the player from that. Things like measurements and these new school spider charts should just be used as secondary supplemental information to help refine your tiers.

There. I made it a little easier for you and KY. I know a lot of board members struggle with reading and comprehension.
Quote:What very important information can you get from the 40 as it applies to dlineman? The 40 isn't really a factor for anyone in the trenches on either side.

Quickness off the LOS and closing speed to the QB.

So how is it naive? At least give me an actual answer here. :/

Defensive linemen don't get down in sprinter stances during games. -_______-

I know. That is why I prefer the short shuttle and 10 yard dash for them.

The 40 has nothing to do with either of those things.

What teams look for is burst and closing speed as I explained earlier.

the 40 doesnt measure burst or closing speed

I read teams care about how quickly players start running. It is one of those things that can only be measured by the eye test, not a stop watch.
From what ive read a lot of scouts say his game doesn't translate well to the NFL. Some scouts said he could be a solid starter.

That looks like a sprinter stance to me.

FWIW Mike Mayock thinks Derek Barnett is a first round talent. Don't expect him to be available at #35.

Compare that stance to what they do at the Combine and then get back to me.

Kinda tough to get one as a Lineman is settling into the blocks, but this is as good as I could find with about four seconds of spare time to myself. The biggest differences to me were that both hands were down for the "40" as opposed to the "game" stance, and that the butt was higher.

Are you trying to imply that a Defensive Lineman does not want to use a stance that will get him moving forward as quickly as possible? 'Cause that don't seem right to me.

Armstead's not even set there. One hand is supposed to be on the first black line while the off-hand is up behind the back.

If you can't tell the obvious difference between the stance DLs use in games and when they run the freakin' 40 at the Combine, then there's no point in continuing this. :/

Its the same process. The first 10 yards of the 40 yard dash is about exploding off the line as much as you can, the same way a pass rusher would when exploding off his stance when rushing. Its not completely like for like of course because one has opposition but its similar
