Quote:Its the same process. The first 10 yards of the 40 yard dash is about exploding off the line as much as you can, the same way a pass rusher would when exploding off his stance when rushing. Its not completely like for like of course because one has opposition but its similar
Except that they aren't similar. :/
Show me a DL using a 40 dash stance during a game(Pro-tip: You can't because no one does).

Not sure why you think they would be in the exact same stance as the 40 yard dash?
Its the same process, using the legs and body movement to explode off the line from a static position. If you watch any sprints in slow mo, they use the same style of explosion to start off. Other than that they are very different of course.
Look they explode off the line here

Not sure why this is a debate still. If you're trying to see a DE's explosion, just look at 3-cone and broad jump. The 40 is good if you're just looking at how he gets off the line, but the rest of the drill means nothing.

You should ask Deacon since he was the one saying that before you jumped in.

He's not saying they are the exact same stance. Just that they are similar, which they are, particularly the 3 point stance.
No, that's very much what he was implying when posting the pic of the Philly DE while replying to what I said to JW.

You missed the implication it seems.
I just watched Solomon Thomas's game film and barnett's and TBH people say Solomon has a high motor, but he seemed to jog it off after he was outta the play were Barnett was in full sprint mode all game. Plus if we're going for pass rusher, this guy actually looks like a pass rusher coming off the edge and really gave double teams a challenge.
Solomon each time he was double teamed didn't really beat any of them, they just let him go because they didn't know the QB was right behind them.
Plus, this guy seems to make the QB step up into the pocket way more, which is only going to help our $90m D linemen malik jackson raise his sack count...

I noticed this too with the jogging off after the play. Thomas seemed to give up when he could've kept the motor running. That scares me.
Quote:3 cone is king. 3 cone >>>> vertical and broad jumps >>>> short shuttle. Those are the only drills that have positive correlations to DE success. 40 yard, 10 yard, long shuttle, and bench press can be all but ignored.
Source? Or are we taking your word for it
