Quote:Got a better idea, that has some long term value?
Bring in a veteran kicker who can help this team beat the worst of the worst in the NFL so we can all feel warm and fuzzy inside and pretend the team is actually good for a couple weeks?
Might as well see if the team has anything in Myers now that we know this is another wasted season.
The only reason this season and the last few have all been "wasted" seasons by week 4 is because of suggestions like yours. "Don't EVER make big moves to try and improve your weaknesses, just drop to your knees and pray to God that this clown or that clown will magically become good enough to be on another team's practice squad!"
How about we try for once to improve? You refer to beating bad teams as just giving us "warm and fuzzy" feelings, but beating the worst teams in the league is pretty fundamental. Sure, that doesn't guarantee a Super Bowl but I sure as heck would take wins over the worst of the worst to give these guys some ounce of confidence, over continuing to BE the worst of the worst. So far this season, if we'd just defeated the worst of the worst in the league, we'd be in first place in the division a quarter of the way through the season.
How about just have one lucky fan each week get to suit up as the kicker until we find a diamond in the litter box.
Quote:Meyers is a rookie keep in mind. You will make rookie mistakes.
I don't care if a guy has two games of experience or twenty years. If he can't make the big kicks, he has no place in this league.
Quote:I noticed this on the last one. It looked like he had it nailed, then it was like there was some english on it toward the end. Was it wind?
Myers admitted the first kick he virtually shanked it, but said on the last two he thought they were going to be good but they curved out in opposite directions. I think he's still just young and learning. The kid's certainly got the leg. As I watched them the second kick was very close. I felt like maybe he overcompensated on the final kick given the resuts of the first two, but then again that last kick was headed right toward splitting the uprights until the very end.
The Jaguars might have to move on if this keeps happening, but I trust he'll get it together quickly. I do think in time he's going to be one of the league's better Kickers.
Scobee appears to be in a major funk and may simply be past his prime. I feel like it would be a mistake to take him back now while parting with Myers. The only consolation I can give Scobee is that most of his misses have come at Heinz Field which is a notoriously difficult place to kick at.
Myers is as useless as Grant. It's ok to admit it.
Also I get that we ran the quick play to the short side with yeldon to get a few yards closer and get out of bounds (which was beautifully drawn up and its a shame that goes overlooked) but my question is why are we attempting to kick the game winner from 50 yards out from the RIGHT HASH. we have a righty kicker, kicks naturally tend to break left so we put him on the hash mark that makes it a tougher shot? we cant at least put the ball in the middle or somehow get EITHER kick to be from the left hash where he has a better angle to make it??? It's baffling to me, its the small details that get overlooked.
I say give the kid till the bye week. if he blows another kick then bring in veteran competition and have the compete for the Job, Myers has leg but he's still a rookie (scobee botched a few his 1st year as well) if they want to take the rest of the season to address the issue im begrudgingly fine with it, but this is an issue that had better not rear its ugly head at any point next season. If you miss 1 kick ok, but you can't have a second chance to redeem yourself and blow that as well and still expect to be a competitive team (we always hear "compete" and other words like "improvement" "consistency") this is the last "freebie" year imo. Next season, Fowlers back, you'll likely get another Top-10 (if not Top-5) selection and you have the most Salary Cap Space in the league, this offseason is the time to spend that, not put ourselves in cap hell but we need to start signing veterans and at least attempting to be competitive beyond the mantras we hear from Bradley each week.

The Colts are very confident in him, too.
The team decided to go with a young QB, young OL, young DL, young coach, young secondary, young GM....
All have issues. Of course we go with the young kicker with 0 NFL experience. That's how we do things around here and let the chips fall where they may.
Stop blaming the kicker, blame the coach who decided to settle for setting up a 50 yard field goal after the kicker just missed from 53 twice.

haha! That they are. Hopefully he can come back from this and improve.
Hey Gus...I'm confident in him too! I'm very confident that he's gonna miss the fg when the game is on the line!!

I agree with this. The game is on the line and Gus and co were literally playing for a 50 yard field goal.
I'm not too disappointed in the kicker for missing from 53 and 48. Those aren't gimmes by any means for any kicker.
Hey, Brindza is available...
The fact that it's Monday and Myers is still on the roster makes me sad.
I'm really ready to end this regime.
The KICKER has ONE JOB. Kick the ball between the uprights. This is the NFL, PERIOD. You can't kick 50 yards accurately then you do not belong in the NFL. He gets paid a ridiculous amount of money to KICK THE BALL and he can't do it. HE SHOULD BE FIRED

Pretty much this.
People keep saying it shouldn't come down to a field goal but there are a handful of NFL games every week that are decided by 3 points or less. You have one job. Just make the damn kick (especially after having 3 chances to do so).

The two aren't mutually exclusive. It never should have been that close, and he needs to make that kick.

It's ok Myers you had an opportoony but it didn't work out man! Making the kicks is not important as long as you compete and get better man! If you believe in yourself man and trust the process then the kicks will start going through the uprights man and it feels awesome man and that's what it's all about! Cheer up kiddo, let's go to the locker room and get you two scoops of rocky road, and I'll give you extra whipped topping and a cherry because I really like your mentality and spirit man!
I bet it has something to do with the NFL officials carefully keeping track of inflation of everyone's balls because there is way more missing by kickers this year. Needed another conspiracy theory going Did you see what I did there
Quote:I am utterly baffled by the people who keep talking about this being a bad decision. Have any of you watched Scobee kick this year? He's probably the only kicker in the league that's been worse than Meyers so why would it have been a good idea to keep him?
Just because Meyer sucks does not mean that Scobee is better. I was one of Scobee's biggest fans while he was here (who's a fan of a kicker anyway), but let's be real; he was atrocious in Pitt.
Actually, the Bucs kicker is easily worse than both.
