Quote:What did he say that Caldwell didn't address when he was drafted? Bortles is incredibly raw and the team planned on sitting him the entire year so he could learn from the bench and work on his craft. But because Henne was so horrible the first few weeks of the season the team was forced to make a decision to start him earlier than planned or risk losing the fan base by trotting out Henne every Sunday.

Fail.
I've said it before and I say it again.... You don't draft a quarterback in the top 10 if you don't think he's even good enough to beat out CHAD FREAKING HENNE. That was a huge red flag for me.

We've talked about wonky mechanics with a certain other mobile quarterback who has been cut time and time again.... ahem tebow....

I tried to make the comparison before, and people didn't want to buy it. Blake Bortles is a right handed tebow. Wonky mechanics hurt his arm strength and accuracy, and, like tebow, he will probably never fix them. It's just so damn hard to forget what you've been doing your entire life and try a new way.

Again, sometimes you just have to use the eye test. Does a guy look good throwing the ball, and does he throw it accurately consistently. Blake doesn't check either of those boxes.
So far he is having an ok sophomore season.

5tds 3 ints rating of 78

No point in discussing if we should of drafted him because we can't change it. I don't know if Bortles is the Franchise but I hope so.

The comparison to Tebow is [BLEEP]. First off, did you see Tebow throw this season? His throwing motion is drastically improved, only he still stinks to high heaven. Bortles also improved his mechanics this offseason, only he really does look drastically improved. He looks fine throwing the ball to me. The only thing I notice is some flutter and innacurracy on his deep bombs. You seem to be taking those few throws and applying that to all of his throws which simply is not the case.

Blake's stats the past two weeks edge out Mariota, and for that matter a majority of starting qbs in this league. I'd have to a lot of calculations to list them all, but off hand I'm guessing his qb rating the past two weeks is better than about 2/3 of starting qbs. If he were to simply keep doing what he's done since the Panthers game, the Jaguars should be in darn good shape.

Bortles completed some passes on a few gimmes once they were already down 30 points. Woohoo our future is set!

Granted, but the Patriots are not a team to go easy just because they are down.

And I've said it before and I'll say it again, people that have this type of foresight should remove their heads from between their butt cheeks. It's freaking MORONIC.

You're drafting a player that high for the LONG HAUL, whether he starts immediately or not. If some message board pea-brain can't understand that, then they just don't understand the college draft. It's that STUPID instant gratification mentality.
Let's not make believe everything is settled in year one, two or three.  Remember the grand Manning v Leaf debates?  And then Manning demonstrates all of the traits that had people questioning him coming out of college?  Yeah it took "time" for him to work through the learning curve and transition.  Oh and by the way he had the old rules to use for practice time and coaching time.

Am I saying Bortles is going to be Manning?  I don't know because we aren't there yet.  All I know from one off season is this guy sure works hard and you can see the work on the field.  This isn't a case of rah rah and hope, there is improvement.  The problem for Bortles is the rest of the offense is young, inexperienced and mistake prone.

I hate waiting but this team needs a hellavua lot of work.

Heck, Jags need to hire this guy...

I dunno man the dude totally beefed it at the end

Lololololol get out of here. Tebow? Really man? How dumb do you have to be?

Can anyone really see Tebow going two straight weeks at any point and posting a combined 92.7 qb rating for those weeks? Our young qb just did as much over the past two weeks.

LOL at these guys!

We could visit that old adage, 'everyone has a voice but nothing to say.'

hyperbole
Guy is top 10 in yards and top 5 for TD passes and we've only been skunked one game.

Abraham Lincoln was right: "You can please some of the people all the time, all of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time."

Oops. lol. What a dumb statement
Top 10 in yards passing and top 5 in TDs.....but he doesnt pass the "eye test".

Natch

And this is why I'll never take clfcrn seriously. He's the kind of guy who will take a dumb on a player if they well 15/16 games a year for having 1 bad game.
Greg Gabriel and I emailed each other back and forth 28 times before the draft telling me Bortles was a bust. I told him him would be a Top 5 QB. Gabriel offered me $5,000 bet that he would be a bust. I didn't accept. He was getting nasty in the emails and cursing at me....like he does to people at twitter. There is a reason he's not in the league anymore. Bortles is a stud.
