He never went 6-10. He went 5-11 in 2003 his rookie year. When all of those players were there. He went 5-11 in 2008 when the majority of those guys were still there. Still a vast difference comparing the talent he had to work with compared to what we have today. Do you disagree?

actually, you're 100% right, my bad. I confused the 2008 record as 6-10 as opposed to 5-11, and i didnt know he went 5-11 in 03. That's my fault.

and no i don't, your point was totally right. He had much better and seasoned talent that we have today. That being said, i still think with a healthy roster this year, del rio could at least get us to 7 wins
JDR did a fine job until the Peterson incident when he lost the lockerroom and the Jaguars rarely ever won since.

What I remember also was he had "his guys" and that led to a divided locker room.
He alienated guys like Peterson, Fred Taylor and John Henderson.
I'm sure dumping Leftwich for Garrard in head scratching fashion then doing the same to Garrard for Gabbert sure didn't help win many players over.

We were losing and Mike Peterson flexed his muscles after a sack. Del Rio called him out on it during a film session and I think even benched him. JDR apparently went from a laid back player's coach to a bit of a tyrant and that didn't go over too well with the locker room. The rest of his tenure as coach was pretty much a mess.

The Peterson incident was the final straw, but it was ready to boil over even before then. Basically there were 3-4 leaders (especially on defense): Mike Pete, Deon Grant, Stroud were the notable ones. JDR lost all of them.

I was at that game. Ryan Fitzpatrick (then a young and fairly inexperienced backup QB) played what I thought at the time was "the best game of his career". I couldn't believe the Jags lost to that guy. But, as they say, Any Given Sunday.

I refuse to extrapolate the remainder of the Raiders season based on 3 games.... anymore than I would do so in a woeful fashion for our Jaguars...
I will say this...
During his tenure here Jack Del Rio was a pretty darn good coach. And it wasn't until the rosters were their most depleted did he really start to lose it, imo.
Taking over a roster that had some skillful players did young Jack well. And back in an era when you could get away with an average offense with good D and strong running, he did just that for many of his years.
While the Jaguars were never AFCS champions or even truly contenders under Jack, we were always pushing and challenging and sometimes achieving a wild card berth. Sometimes even making some noise.
But eventually good just isn't good enough and his time ran out here in J-Ville. And probably never a better moment for ol JDR. The sad beaten look on his face could wither from memory just as quick as his "keep choppin wood"... he'd go back to defensive coordinator, back to his roots, reset.
A few years of pretty good defenses in Denver got JDR a shot again at head coach. And I tell you what... the Raiders are lucky to have him, on his second stint.
Now he knows what he can and what he can not do. He knows what works he knows what doesn't. He has a young roster to build off of. He's matured a bit as a person and a coach.
Playoffs? I dunno..... but rising to the top of a division waiting to be had (as soon as Manning makes his soon exit) is really possible. And a long career is what I envision for ol' Jack in Southern Cal.

Dom Capers and David Carr beat him seemed like at least once a year.
