We aren't going back to having a fullback.

Was awful last year. He's more of a short yard running back than a blocker

I think someone younger makes more sense here. I suppose he'd be fine at the vet minimum but would have to beat out a rookie in camp most likely.
(If this team even adds a FB)

I am not sure if sucking last year was primarily because of his age. He could just not be a very good fullback. ZNation would know.

He was definitely a good FB for a while, but I fear his best days are behind him.

I have doubts that Mike Tolbert can offer enough on Special Teams at this stage of his career to justify having him on the Game Day Roster. I doubt Tolbert would see enough action on Offense to make him an efficient investment if he can't produce at a winning level on Special Teams.

Tolbert was a fan favorite for Carolina for a few years but he's honestly two years done. Part of the knock on Ron Rivera is that he plays vets in favor of younger guys, and the fact that Tolbert was still getting carries is proof of that. Last year he saw his lowest snaps per game at 20. It was definitely time for him to go (and it hurts to see him go). His "blocking" disappeared years ago and last year he couldn't even pick up the short yardage that he was always sure to get. He got stuck by a safety in Oakland on a huge 3rd and short and fell backwards....it was pathetic.
Love the guy, but his tank is empty.

Thanks for your take!
This sounds like a situation in which the Bill Belichick approach of potentially getting rid of a player a little too soon would have been better.

Funny how a name can keep you relevant for a couple seasons even if you're not lol

Shoot man we saw his play decline firsthand and our team still kept him around. Funny thing is he was a Pro Bowler this year. Shows you how obsolete the FB position has become. Our run first team depends on the FB position so I can imagine we will be going after someone - I'm hearing the kid from Baltimore possibly.

I want the Jaguars to sign a real fullback. I doubt we will because Nathaniel Hackett is still the OC.

Hackett used a FB when was the OC in Buffalo. When you are wrong, you are wrong...

In eight games as our OC last year, he never used a FB. So I am right.
