Quote:Wow. Impressive.
All of our guys need a scheme to sack the QB. None of them can do it by themselves, and that's why we had high sacks but low pressures last year. Don't worry though, after this season Branch will be cut if he windmills through 16 games. We'll get Fowler back and make a lot of cuts on the line probably.
I just think it is seriously foolish to assume Branch is a lock to make the roster.
I guess I'm in the minority, but I do like Branch.  He's got one move, but he uses it effectively, I think to get sacks or pressures.

I'm really rooting for Chris Davis, though. He makes the most of every opportunity.

Clemons, too.

Were Folwer not sidelined, and instead making plays... they both may have already been cut by now.
Chris Smith, not Chris Davis. My bad.

I don't know, I'm a really big fan of Ryan Smith.

I didn't think this was news. He's not all that good and I thought we all knew that. But he still has value when he's schemed to rush. Wasn't he leading the team in sacks at one point last season before getting hurt?

Clemons is a proven pass rusher. His stats were down a bit last year but they were still the best on the roster. He's most definitely a roster lock, and I can't imagine why you'd think otherwise.

Because he's over 30, and the hip new thing to do is call for the release of everyone over 30, no matter how good or important to the team they are.

Guessing I could fare comparably if I was schemed to rush, and I guarantee someone soon to be on the waiver wire could do the same.
I thought he was coming on fairly strong last year before he got injured, but then again the whole unit was starting to play better too. I don't think he will be cut and I also don't think Bradley is showcasing his defensive schemes in preseason. which may be why we aren't seeing many sacks.

He's just not effective. He's about as effective as Harvey was as a rusher.

What was more disappointing to me was that side got run on quite a bit when the Giants did decide to run. I can live with him not being able to rush the passer for double-digit sacks, but at least set the edge on the run game so we don't get gashed for 12 yards

There wasn't a spot on the line where we weren't getting gashed against the giants.
Quote:I was saying that too a few days ago, and I said it last year during the pre-season as well. And then he intercepted Stafford's pass and got a sack in the third pre-season game. They're a scheming unit and aren't good enough to get sacks on their own. They were running with standard formations and plays last week, that's why none of our starters have gotten sacks.

I'm not sure if Andre Branch warrants a roster spot this season with the Jaguars.  But that interception he made against Matthew Stafford was a tremendous play that combined high caliber athletic ability and recognition skills.   If the Jags decide to let Branch go,  I'll be surprised if he's unemployed in the coming days.
6 5, 265, 26 year old, early 2nd round pick, entering 4th year? He'll get snatched before you say Reggie freaking Nelson.

His AWOL time this season has been suggested to have evolved into a locker room issue, or at worst a potential locker room issue.  A lingering problem, and perhaps a bad attitude this team doesn't need.

Our rush last year came from committee more than any one individual.

I'm not sure he's going to be much of a factor this year.  At least, not a positive one, or one worth the problems.

I don't buy those rumors one bit. He missed one day.

And Gus is such a "team morale" guy that if there was even a whiff of a locker room issue then that player would be gone fast.
Edit double post
Missed registration really. Was present when the horns were blown. The non football PUP, a mystery. Life.

I don't envision gaudy #s either, but let's not vilify our own. Support em relentlessly, keep morale up...
